Reggio Emilia, July 24, 2026 – An investigation is underway into the death of an adult woman, found lifeless in a garage at number 35 via Turri. The 118 emergency call was made in the early afternoon, around 2:30 PM. Two residents of the building were passing through the underlying gallery when they noticed the door of a garage ajar and, inside, a lifeless body. The State Police intervened on the scene, along with forensic experts, to shed light on the causes of death; the garage was seized. The woman, investigators report, was 41 years old, of Moroccan origin with Italian citizenship and resident in the province.
Autopsy ordered
Public prosecutor Stefano Finocchiaro has ordered an autopsy. According to what has been learned so far, there are no signs of violence. But obviously this does not rule out any hypothesis, which will be formulated with greater precision with the results of the autopsy examination and the analysis of other available elements. Among these are, for example, surveillance camera footage that could help reconstruct the last hours before death.
Footage under scrutiny by investigators
The same footage could also help investigators understand how and how much the woman frequented the neighborhood and, specifically, the via Turri area.
Although the investigations are just beginning, it cannot be ruled out that it is a case of overdose.

As is known, many garages in via Turri are systematically occupied by homeless people and drug addicts.
The half-open door
The very fact that the door was ajar when the body was found could lean towards this hypothesis. Sometimes the occupation happens automatically, if the garage is abandoned or disused, but in just as many cases the door is forced and makeshift beds are created inside the properties used by the condominiums.
The entire neighborhood, in reality, is now characterized by this phenomenon. It is no coincidence that, in relation to the anti-bivouac ordinance issued by the Municipality of Reggio at the request of the Prefecture, from mid-June to today several administrators of the station district have explicitly asked the police for checks on illegitimate access to condominiums. The controls, according to what was reported by the Prefecture, had led to the application of ad hoc measures in several cases, to prevent homeless people from illegally occupying private spaces.
