Bologna, July 28, 2026 – “We have requested that the investigations into the death of Abderrahim Fakir be entrusted to a different investigative body” other than the Police. These are the words of Fabio Anselmo, lawyer for Fakir’s family, reported in black and white in a long post published this morning.

The premise behind the request, the lawyer informs, is that “the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights on January 15, 2025 reaffirmed a fundamental principle: when members of Institutions or Law Enforcement are involved in the facts under investigation, the inquiries must be conducted by truly independent authorities, free from hierarchical or operational ties with the officers involved.”
The lawyer: “Very strong political pressures”
The request, continues the lawyer for Fakir’s family, “also arises from the very strong political pressures exerted on the Bologna Police Headquarters. Ministers and majority representatives went directly to the offices responsible for the investigations, publicly proclaiming the innocence of the officers when the inquiries had just begun.” They did so, Anselmo emphasizes, “without showing the slightest human solidarity towards Fakir and his family and contributing to creating an atmosphere incompatible with the calm that should accompany a delicate investigation.”

The long post by lawyer Anselmo does not end here. “Requesting guarantees of independence does not mean expressing a distrust generalized towards the Police forces. The case of Federico Aldrovandi – Anselmo recalls, who always followed it as the family’s lawyer – reminds us that even investigations carried out after a death can be affected by omissions and cover-ups, capable of slowing down and complicating the path of justice for years.”
“It is not an indiscriminate accusation: transparent and free investigations are needed”
The request, reiterates the lawyer for Fakir’s family, “therefore does not represent an indiscriminate accusation” but rather “is a guarantee measure based on European jurisprudence and made even more necessary by the political interference that accompanied this case – he concludes – The credibility of institutions is not defended by anticipating acquittals, but by ensuring independent, transparent and free investigations from any pressure.”
