Those who saw up close
After hearing the relatives of the 42-year-old who died handcuffed, the prosecutors in charge of the manslaughter investigation under form 45-bis are now shifting their focus precisely on those four residents. Not only the Kosovar shirtless who helped the two police officers hold Fakir down by the feet the longest, but also the other three residents who intervened at different times and in different ways. According to what has emerged, at least one of this group (not the Eastern European citizen) has already been heard by prosecutors Ambrosino, Arienti, and Plazzi for the provision of summary testimonial information.

The next steps
But the testimonies, once all four citizens who witnessed the intervention up close have been heard, will likely extend – or are already extending – to the many citizens who saw and filmed from their balconies. While the possible hearings of the six people noted in form 45-bis are not yet scheduled. The two police officers and the four 118 paramedics, defended respectively by lawyers Gabriele Bordoni and Mario Simoni, have provided their version either through the service report or through the first statements made at the police station immediately after the events.
The new analyses

Meanwhile, today at 11 a.m. at the prosecutor’s office, the assignment will be given to engineer Ferraro (prosecutor’s consultant) to carry out the super-expertise on the cell phone of Abderrahim Fakir. The parties, represented by lawyer Anselmo for the relatives of the 42-year-old and lawyer Bordoni for the two police officers, will instead appoint as their consultants engineers Cimino and Spalletti. The goal of the new expertise will be to delve into the secrets of Fakir’s cell phone to determine in particular the last hours of the man before arriving at Pilastro. And also the reason behind the 42-year-old’s visit to the working-class neighborhood on the city’s outskirts.

The truth of the videos
Still speaking of expert reports, the defense of the two officers has moved from words to action by filing a request for an additional specific consultancy on all the videos available to the investigators. The ultimate goal is to intervene on the image quality (from amateur videos to the camera and the entire footage of the bodycam lasting about 40 minutes), as well as to rigorously attribute every phrase captured in the various videos scientifically.

The prosecutor’s focus
And precisely the images remain at the top of the investigative priorities also for the prosecutors in charge of the case file. Considering the large amount of footage of Fakir’s last moments of life, for the prosecutor at this stage it is important to analyze the videos to have a technically reliable and chronologically logical reconstruction of these images, based on which to then verify if there are points and aspects to be further investigated.
From the laboratory
It will still be necessary to wait to have objective answers crystallized in the final report of the team of experts working on the autopsy. Additional examinations will begin at the end of August, with analyses on Fakir’s heart. Then moving on to toxicological results and histological examinations in September. Meanwhile, the body of the 42-year-old who died in Pilastro is still at the disposal of the judicial authority although for the prosecutor the direct autopsy examinations are concluded. On this aspect, the communication is reserved and direct between the prosecutors and Abderrahim’s relatives.
