Bologna, August 1, 2026 – A square, a green area, a street: each of the 85 victims of the massacre at Bologna station will have a public city place named after them. This was decided by the council, on the proposal of the City Council, last March. A process, shared with the Association of the victims’ families of the massacre, which has continued in recent months, leading to the identification of the spaces that will bear the names of those who died in the explosion of the neo-fascist bomb. It is not starting from scratch, in the sense that some areas had already been named: in particular, the Natalia Agostini and Manuela Gallon gardens, the roundabout ‘Taxi drivers victims of the August 2, 1980 massacre’ has become the roundabout ‘Francesco Betti and Fausto Venturi, taxi drivers victims of the August 2, 1980 massacre’, and the small square Sergio Secci.
The ceremony in Borgo Panigale
On Sunday, then, on the occasion of the anniversary, in Borgo Panigale the mayor of Ravenna, Alessandro Barattoni, will pay tribute to his fellow citizens killed by the explosion in the small square Leo Luca Marino, Domenica Marino and Angela Marino and in the passage Antonella Ceci. The families of Leo Luca and Antonella, the victims from Ravenna, will also be present. Finally, from September, the installation of the poles for all the other plaques will take place.
The new identified areas: here is where they are
The ‘new’ identified areas are ‘scattered’ throughout the city: not only the historic center, but also and especially the suburbs. The reason is explained by the mayor Matteo Lepore: “We chose to distribute these namings in the different neighborhoods of our city, to strengthen their community value, not linking it to a single place but favoring the intertwining of those names, and their stories, with the daily life of people. Remembering their names means affirming the democratic values of our city and the fight for truth and justice, carried on tenaciously by the families for more than forty years. A battle that we all together have been able to win.”
Borgo Panigale-Reno Neighborhood
The square located inside Nicholas Green park, near the Certosa, will be named after Cesare Francesco Diomede Fresa, Errica Frigerio and Vito Diomede Fresa; in the same park, passages will be named after Mauro Alganon, Angelo Priore, Irene Breton, Roberto Procelli, Catherine Helen Mitchell, John Andrew Kolpinski, Iwao Sekiguchi, Brigitte Douhard, Francisco Gomez Martinez and Berta Ebner;
Carla Gozzi and Umberto Lugli will have the area located at the entrance of the Natalia Agostini and Manuela Gallon garden and facing via Nino Bertocchi named after them; Eleonora Geraci, Vittorio Vaccaro, Angelica Tarsi and Loredana Molina will have small squares inside the Natalia Agostini and Manuela Gallon garden named after them;
The square located inside the same garden will be named after Velia Carli and Salvatore Lauro; while passages inside the same garden will be named after Elisabetta Manea, Roberto De Marchi, Giuseppe Patruno, Flavia Casadei and Pier Francesco Laurenti.
Savena Neighborhood
Some passages inside Cedri park will be named after Vincenzina Sala, Lina Ferretti, Argeo Bonora, Paolino Bianchi, Pietro Galassi, Salvatore Seminara, Antonino Di Paola and Romeo Ruozi.
Navile Neighborhood
Some passages inside Giardini park will be named after Viviana Bugamelli, Paolo Zecchi, Pio Carmine Remollino, Mauro Di Vittorio, Maria Angela Marangon, Rossella Marceddu, Davide Caprioli, Mirco Castellaro, Vincenzo Petteni, Gaetano Roda, Antonio Montanari;
The area located at the intersection of via dell’Arcoveggio and via dei Giardini will be named after Marina Antonella Trolese and Anna Maria Salvagnini; the area located at the entrance of Giardini park and facing via dei Giardini will be named after Sonia Burri, Patrizia Messineo and Silvana Serravalli;
A small square inside Giardini park will be named after Luca Mauri, Anna Maria Bosio and Carlo Mauri; the green area located between via di Corticella and via dei Giardini will be named after Angela Fresu, Maria Fresu and Verdiana Bivona; the area connecting via Shakespeare and via Byron will be named after Margret Rohrs, Eckhardt and Kai Mader; the area located between via Aristotile Fioravanti and via Delfino Insolera, adjacent to the garden Victims of the August 2, 1980 massacre, will be named after Katia Bertasi, Mirella Fornasari, Euridia Bergianti, Nilla Natali and Rita Verde.
San Donato – San Vitale Neighborhood
A small square inside Pier Paolo Pasolini park will be named after Franca Dall’Olio; passages inside Pier Paolo Pasolini park will be named after Nazzareno Basso, Maria Idria Avati, Mario Sica, Roberto Gaiola, Amorveno Marzagalli, Rosina Barbaro, Vincenzo Lanconelli, Vito Ales, Lidia Olla, Francesco Antonio Lascala and Onofrio Zappalà.
