Ancona, August 4, 2026 – Service car to go to Rome, drivers employed to accompany him, hours of work and overtime that according to the judges had not been performed, and the transfer allowance collected in full while he slept for free in a Police room. The final bill is 136,412.56 euros to be returned to the Ministry of the Interior. The one who will have to pay is Giuseppe Tranzillo, 58 years old, at the time of the contested facts a senior technical manager of the State Police and director of the Senigallia Facilities. This was decided by the Court of Auditors with a ruling filed yesterday.
An Alfa Romeo Giulietta assigned to the Facilities for service needs had traveled about 22 thousand kilometers in just over five months, when the expected mileage for a whole year of normal use was about 25 thousand.
Investigations were thus triggered and the picture expanded to three Police vehicles (a Giulietta, a Fiat Bravo, and a Fiat Punto) leading to the identification of 167 trips considered unrelated to service needs.
38 days contested on the Senigallia-Rome route
Within that list there is mainly the Senigallia-Rome route, where Tranzillo had his family home: 38 contested days. But there are also trips to Spoleto, Orte, and Terni, journeys between the accommodation and the workplace, and movements within the Capital. According to what was reconstructed in the ruling, after becoming aware of the investigations Tranzillo would have been accompanied with the service car to Falconara, Spoleto, Terni, or Orte, then continuing by train to Rome. Overall, the mileage under examination exceeds 30 thousand kilometers, for a cost attributed to the administration of 11,919 euros.
Tranzillo claimed that some trips to the Capital were also related to a task for technical checks on the weapons used in the via Fani massacre and the kidnapping of Aldo Moro in 1978. An explanation that, according to the Accounting Prosecutor’s Office, was not adequately documented and seemed unlikely given the frequency of the trips. When the vehicles were used for non-institutional purposes, according to the Court, the hours of the employees assigned to drive them were also taken from service for a value of 6,383 euros. Not only that. The investigations calculated, between April 30, 2019, and November 20, 2020, over 812 hours of ordinary work and 1,445 hours of overtime not actually performed. For the ordinary hours and for the overtime actually paid, the Court recognized a total damage of 114,785.05 euros.
Then there is the room.
For almost six years he had a single room free of charge at the Senigallia Mobile Unit
From July 2015 to February 2021 the manager had at his disposal a single room with a private bathroom free of charge in the building of the XIV Mobile Unit of Senigallia. In the monthly forms to obtain the transfer allowance, however, he declared that he did not use a service accommodation. His defense argued that this accommodation did not meet the size and characteristics required for a senior technical manager. For the judges, it was still a free room that saved him from having to rent a home. The calculated damage is another 3,324.93 euros.
There is already a criminal case on the matter. Tranzillo had been sentenced in a summary trial to two years and four months for embezzlement, false in a public act, and aggravated fraud; the sentence was confirmed last April by the Court of Appeal of Ancona.
The manager declared that he has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court. Contacted by Carlino, lawyer Paolo Pucciarmati, Tranzillo’s defender, explained that he wants to first read and evaluate the ruling and discuss with his client also about a possible appeal.
