Cosenza, August 11, 2026 – Two brothers, Domenico and Umberto Orsino, are the alleged attackers of Antonio Perrotta, the 34-year-old bouncer from Fuscaldo who died yesterday after being beaten outside the nightclub ‘Il Castello’ in Sangineto, in the Cosentino area, on the night between August 8 and 9. Of Calabrian origin but born and raised in Luxembourg, the Orsino brothers were arrested on the initiative of the Paola prosecutor’s office, in Belvedere Marittimo. Domenico, 22, is a pillar of the Luxembourg national rugby team, while Umberto, 24, works as a physiotherapist. In Calabria for the holidays, they are under investigation for murder aggravated by trivial motives. Investigators – the Diamante police and the Carabinieri of Paola and Scalea – reportedly identified them after collecting testimonies and reviewing surveillance camera footage. At the time of the arrest, investigators reportedly found clothing with traces of blood compatible with those worn by the attackers on the night of the beating.
The two exercised their right to remain silent during the interrogation by the Paola prosecutor, Domenico Fiordalisi.
What happened Saturday night
The origin of the attack would be a dispute over an entrance ticket: the two brothers did not have one and for this reason Perrotta had escorted them out of the venue. At this point, the violence of Domenico and Umberto Orsino would have erupted.
After being beaten, Perrotta was reportedly helped by acquaintances and taken home. But as hours passed, he began to experience pain and bleeding from the nose. He arrived at the Cetraro hospital with numerous and deep wounds. Given the seriousness of the situation, he was then transferred to the Cosenza hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, where he died yesterday.
The mother in tears: “They killed him”
Justice is demanded by the mother and brother of the victim, Nazzareno Perrotta. “They killed him,” the woman said in tears to TG1. Antonio, a worker in a private company by day, bodyguard at night to make ends meet, leaves behind his partner and four children, the youngest not even one year old.
The chorus of the mayors of the Tyrrhenian Cosentino area is unanimous. “You can’t die like this,” said Giacomo Middea, mayor of Fuscaldo, who announced the proclamation of a day of mourning on the occasion of the funeral, not yet scheduled. “On that day we will fly the flags at half-mast and invite all commercial activities to lower their shutters.” Cancellation or postponement of events and manifestations has also been requested. No shows even in Sangineto: “Violence can and must never find space in our community,” said the mayor Michele Guardia. “We must all reflect and work so that safety, respect, and legality once again become essential values of our coexistence.” In recent weeks, “other episodes of violence have accompanied the nightlife,” commented Ugo Vetere, mayor of Santa Maria del Cedro. “This strip of land needs controls, presence, and peace.”
Nightclub closed for 15 days
The police chief of Cosenza, Antonio Borelli, meanwhile has suspended the license of the nightclub ‘Il Castello’ for 15 days in order to prevent the continuation of a “situation of social danger” and to “protect the order and safety of citizens, regardless of any responsibility of the operator.” The area remains patrolled by law enforcement.
