It was not an April Fool’s joke: that treasure was real
And it all happened on a somewhat special day. It was indeed last April 1st and it was easy for everyone to immediately think it was an April Fool’s joke. But it wasn’t because in reality that find, perhaps even more unusual than winning the scratch card, was not made up.
The report to the carabinieri
Real abandoned furniture, real money and no April Fool’s joke either for the women who found it or for the municipal employee who had to manage this incredible find.
Ten days later, in fact, the related report arrived at the carabinieri of the Bologna Mazzini station which put an end to everyone’s doubts: those 86 thousand euros were real and the owner was being sought.

The appeal on the official notice board and the start of the bureaucratic process
The Municipality then took custody of the money that had been found by the two women, and published that extraordinary find on the official notice board. From here the bureaucratic process: by law the Municipality can keep the money for one year and in this case someone claimed it: besides the women who found the money, also the heir of the furniture. From here the Municipality opened a real investigation to determine who the sum belonged to.
The agreement and the return of the money divided as follows
On July 30 last, however, the three reached an agreement and communicated their decision to Palazzo D’Accursio. The Municipality then proceeded to return the money to them as stated on the official notice board. Of this, 33 thousand went to one of the two women who had requested it.
