Loreto (Ancona), July 12, 2026 – The murder in Loreto has shaken the community. Monsignor Fabio Dal Cin, pontifical delegate of Loreto, expressed a thought on what happened: “The news of the tragic femicide that took our sister Luigia Fortunato from life deeply saddens me as a man and as a pastor, and unites Loreto in one great sorrow.”

“Faced with so much violence, the first feeling is the silence of prayer, which becomes a heartfelt closeness to the child, the mother, and Luigia’s family, to whom I wish to express my most fraternal condolences. Right here, in the Holy House, we venerate Mary as an icon of the dignity of women and the sacredness of humanity.”
The appeal is for education; “Love is never possession”
“We must understand and explain, starting with the youngest, that love is never possession, it is not oppression, nor domination over another person. To love means the exact opposite: it is knowing how to give oneself, like Jesus who gave himself to the end. Consequently, true freedom is not doing whatever one wants at the expense of others, but it is a faculty that must be exercised with responsibility and faithfulness, for what is good and what builds life, never what destroys it. If we do not radically change this mentality, the institutions responsible will not be able to stop this trail of violence. While human justice must rightly take its course, we pray for the conversion of the heart of the one who committed such a heinous act, aware that only a radical conversion of the heart can uproot the seed of hatred and violence, and console those who today mourn this unacceptable loss.”

“Wonderful mother: here’s why she was not known to social services”
“Luigia was a wonderful and irreproachable mother, here’s why she was not known to social services. There was no conflict in that family, but a dysfunctional father with a criminal record. She encouraged the man to rehabilitate himself, allowing him to have contact with the son. I am shocked by this communication that revictimizes her.” Thus said Cristina Perozzi, lawyer for Luigia Fortunato’s family, the woman stabbed to death by her husband Sami Khemaies in the house where they lived in Loreto (Ancona). “If there have never been any complaints, how can we know if Luigia was never a victim of abuse? – the lawyer added -. We fight to the last breath to convey a different and educational message to the community.” Regarding the contestation or not of the femicide charge, Perozzi emphasized that it is still “premature to make hypotheses about the crime.” “The authorities are investigating. – she concluded -. Everything I have read so far are conjectures not supported by anything. We must let the judiciary and investigators work calmly, towards whom I have the utmost trust.”
