Bologna, August 19, 2026 – It was not even 7 PM this afternoon when Piazza Verdi once again became a scene of violence. A stabbing at the height of a quarrel between foreigners, which according to the first reconstructions of the event saw a 23-year-old young man face off against a group of 4 compatriots armed with knives and broken bottles. It seems to be a settling of scores or a quarrel that broke out over trivial reasons. These are the circumstances under which the State Police officers, who intervened in the university area, are investigating.

The 23-year-old found himself facing another group
The alarm went off precisely in the late afternoon, when some passersby noticed the clash. It was a real encirclement against a young Somali man. The 23-year-old reportedly found himself facing a group of foreigners, perhaps compatriots, armed with knives and glass bottles. A heated argument quickly escalated into violence when the group attacked and struck the 23-year-old in the face. It is not yet clear whether with a knife stab or a bottle blow. The young man was left injured on the ground while patrol officers with an ambulance rushed to the scene.
One person taken to the police station
Upon arrival of the law enforcement most of the group had already fled, but according to what emerges one person was still taken to the police station for identification, as they are suspected of having taken part in the punitive expedition. The 23-year-old Somali was instead assisted on site by 118 paramedics, from whom he was subsequently transported in medium severity code to Sant’Orsola hospital for treatment of the facial wound sustained during the attack.

The police are now investigating the case, having intervened in the university area (in via Petroni) at the end of July for another quarrel between foreigners that ended in bloodshed. In that case, an Algerian was seriously injured after being hit in the head with a bottle.
