Novi (Modena), August 27, 2026 – Three stabs to the abdomen at the height of yet another argument, crowning five years of domestic terror made up of beatings, sexual abuse, death threats, and even attempts to strangle in sleep. It is a story of shocking and brutal violence that emerged in Novi, where the carabinieri of the local Station and the Radiomobile Unit of the Carpi Company have arrested a man almost in the act, saving the life of his wife.
The violent quarrel of August 21
The peak of violence exploded on last August 21 inside the home in Novi. Following an emergency call to 118, the Carabinieri rushed to the couple’s residence, facing a dramatic scene: at the height of a violent quarrel, the man had armed himself with a sharp kitchen knife and struck three blows aimed at the woman’s abdomen.
The threat
An assault ended with a chilling threat before the arrival of help, with the man telling her that next time he would slit her throat. The knife used for the injury was later found and seized by investigators. The victim was rushed to the emergency room of the Carpi hospital, where medical staff provided first aid and found multiple cutting injuries, judged to be healable with a prognosis of 15 days.
The complaint
Finding the courage to break the wall of silence, the woman filed a formal complaint against her spouse before the Carabinieri, revealing a daily ordeal that had been ongoing uninterrupted since 2021. From the testimonies and investigations coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, a chilling escalation of mistreatment emerged.
The mistreatment
Over the years the woman had been constantly subjected to repeated insults, death threats often made while brandishing household objects, sexual coercion, and continuous beatings: pushes, slaps, punches to the head, and throwing objects. On one occasion, the attacker hit her with a punch right in the face causing her to bleed from the nose; on several occasions, he attacked her treacherously while she was sleeping in bed, squeezing her hands around her neck in an attempt to suffocate her. A very serious evidentiary picture that led the Prosecutor’s Office to charge him with mistreatment against family members and multiple aggravated personal injuries. At the conclusion of the validation hearing, the Preliminary Investigations Judge of Modena, accepting the Prosecutor’s requests, validated the arrest and ordered preventive custody in prison for the man.
