That Standa that still lives on, the reunion of the former saleswomen: "Working there was a great school of li

Pesaro, September 1, 2026 – “The passage of time in our lives has not extinguished the desire to find ourselves all together for a warm embrace.” With this special quote, the special reunion of former saleswomen and former employees of Standa in Pesaro opened, the historic department store on via Branca (at the corner with via Pedrotti, where Douglas and H&M now stand) founded in 1955 and for decades the true beating heart of the city center. For many Pesaro residents, taking a “little trip to Standa” was a daily and unmissable ritual: three floors animated by clothing, household goods departments, and the management offices, a place of meetings and shopping that marked an era until its closure in the 1990s.

“For us, Standa was a great school of life”

Among the historic protagonists of that era is Cristina Del Bene, who joined the store at only 17 years old and was a saleswoman for two decades starting in 1957.

“For us, Standa was a great school of life – Cristina says with a smile –. Coming into daily contact with many types of people, from delivery boys to customers, more or less demanding, we learned to adapt to everything and to grow.”

“When Standa closed it was a hard blow for the whole city”

Then the chapter at the family hotel reception, but with her heart always tied to that first job: “When Standa closed it was a hard blow for the whole city. The truly wonderful thing, however, is that among us former colleagues this great affection has remained that over time has turned us into inseparable friends.”

The bond

An unbreakable bond that for some years has been regularly renewed. For this new appointment, the “ex standarine,” as they call themselves, gathered about fifty at ’Vistrò’, the bar-restaurant inside the Vis Pesaro sports center: a venue entirely reserved for them, to hug, have lunch together, and chat until late afternoon, dusting off stories, anecdotes, and memories of a time that is no more. At its peak, the Pesaro store had up to 125 employees, then settling in the following years around 80 units. The strength of that group, however, has remained intact: nostalgia has turned into shared joy, so much so that the former colleagues can’t wait to meet again at the next ’reunion’.
