Casalfiumanese (Bologna), September 3, 2026 – “I will fight my battle, which is not Sigfrido Ranucci’s battle, but a battle for democracy and freedom of the press. And for a very questionable method that neither recognizes merit nor transparency. Do you think it’s normal that after 35 years at Rai, with my history and experience, I have to learn about my replacement from the news agencies?” Thus Sigfrido Ranucci chose to open the evening in Casalfiumanese, where tonight, at the Villa Manusardi park, the journalist is the protagonist of the final event of the Casale Cineforum with ‘Diary of a trapeze artist – Chronicles of resilience of a reporter’. In addition to the 750 seats, many people were also standing, for a total close to a thousand attendees.

“I thought I would find no one. The Report team is resisting”
“I thought that after being removed from Rai because I had no credibility, I would find no one – joked Ranucci –. The Report team is resisting against an attempt at destruction. When we all learn to behave like them, and to keep our backs straight, maybe this country will begin to have hope of handing over a better world to future generations.”
The event came at the end of weeks of political controversy and while attention remains high on the legal case involving him. The public responded to the event, on an evening accompanied by the security measures arranged by the carabinieri and police. The measures established by the Municipality for the event area were in force, including bans on glass, cans, smoke bombs, fireworks, lasers, and drones.
The attack on Brothers of Italy
Before the show started, Ranucci returned to attack Brothers of Italy on social media, accusing the party of wanting to prevent his show dedicated to freedom of the press and claiming that, after his departure from hosting Report, the aim is to “silence my voice, isolate me.”

Brothers of Italy denied the accusation, reiterating that they instead ask for clarity on the sponsorship and any public support for the initiative. In the background remain the developments of the investigation into the attack on Ranucci and the confession of Valter Lavitola, who admitted to commissioning the action claiming he did so to protect the journalist.
Making the day even more eventful was finally the Report affair: Giulia Presutti gave up co-hosting the program, after being indicated by Rai along with Daniele Piervincenzi. In her place, Claudia Di Pasquale, a long-time correspondent of the show, was chosen, a choice particularly appreciated by the Report editorial staff.
