Bologna, September 18, 2026 – It was not even dawn yet. At 5:30 on Wednesday morning, “plainclothes police officers knocked on my door asking for my wife claiming they had to communicate something to her.” It starts like this. This is where the account of the search experienced firsthand by one of the Bolognese doctors targeted in the Ravenna investigation into alleged fake certificates issued to prevent the transfer of some immigrants to the Cpr begins. The professional, who is not under investigation and is assisted by lawyer Fabio Anselmo, recounts a day that started: “When three officers then showed me the personal, home, and computer search warrant against me,” the doctor rewinds the tape.

“My pregnant wife had a panic attack”
“For me it was a shock that I still cannot explain the reason for. My wife, who is eight weeks pregnant, understanding the situation had a panic attack”. From here, the search was immediately paused to allow “my wife to recover and me to call my lawyer, after having it put on speakerphone, from my wife’s phone,” continues the professional’s account. Then “an officer stayed with my wife, while the others emptied the closets, started reviewing all my documents, and seized my phone while I was still wearing pajamas”.
“A couple of hours of search then 10 hours at the police station”
Almost a couple of hours of search and then “by 7:30 I was at the police station, where I was heard as a person informed of the facts until about 5:15 pm”. Almost ten hours of marathon testimony, during which “having my wife’s phone with me, I only ever received fragmented news from her related to two episodes of discomfort and bleeding she had as a result of the morning’s shock”. Therefore “we went to the Emergency Room, where a partial detachment emerged that does not compromise the pregnancy but must be monitored”.

“Treated like a mafioso”
Frantic phases in the wake of a very delicate investigation for which “faced with this situation, for this matter of great importance, I felt treated like a mafioso,” stresses the Bolognese doctor. “As if I had killed someone, which for a professional who studied ten years to help people was unthinkable. Being treated like a criminal”. “We cannot accept that, through such invasive methods and their immediate public exposure, an informal register of those searched is created, on which inevitably a suspicion is deposited that the procedural position does not justify,” added lawyer Fabio Anselmo, who also assists four of the seven total professionals searched in Bologna, for which on Saturday at 6 pm the Cgil will also be holding a vigil in Piazza Nettuno.
