Ancona, September 18, 2028 – The search for the Abruzzo diver, but serving in the Ancona Navy, who disappeared at sea in Messina last Wednesday, has been unsuccessful. Antonio Ridolfi, 49 years old, has been serving for several years at the Navy Schools Command in Ancona, at the Borgo Rodi headquarters. He is a very experienced diver, but no news of him has been received since Wednesday morning. A rope about 20 meters long was recovered. According to investigations, the man was using a rebreather (a special breathing apparatus) for deep dives. Rescue balloons were also found, all discouraging signs. As the hours pass, hopes of finding him alive obviously grow thinner, and despite constant and thorough searches by the competent Messina authorities, no communications have been received on the matter until late yesterday afternoon.

The marshal has been missing since Wednesday
Of course, there is great concern also within the circles of the Ancona Navy, despite Ridolfi being originally from Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, given his operational activity spent precisely in the Adriatic city. Since Wednesday evening the 49-year-old marshal has been officially missing. As mentioned earlier, Ridolfi was no novice when it came to scuba diving. According to what has been learned from Navy sources, the marshal dived into the waters off the Torre Faro area, in the marine territory of Messina; the searches are concentrated off Papardo. An area that Ridolfi apparently knew quite well and a body of water where he had already dived in the past.

Ridolfi’s dive was reconstructed by investigators thanks to a video surveillance system present near the diver’s entry point. The footage reviewed reportedly confirmed that Ridolfi, once in the water, lowered himself wearing a suit and tanks, thus in diving gear. The camera footage also reportedly confirmed another detail, namely that Ridolfi had a so-called underwater scooter (a portable electric propulsion device that tows the diver or snorkeler).

The investigators identified him thanks to the presence of Ridolfi’s car parked a short distance away. The news, besides the Ancona Navy circles, reached Giulianova where Ridolfi’s family and relatives live.
