Rimini, September 18, 2026 – That overly protruding hedge, according to investigators’ reconstruction, made it difficult for him to pass on the sidewalk with the wheelchair. This is the accusation brought against a 65-year-old man from Rimini, with no criminal record and forced to move in a wheelchair. At the end of the investigations, the carabinieri of the Rimini Viserba station reported him at large for the alleged crime of damage following arson.
The fire of September 7
It all started last September 7, when flames suddenly engulfed the hedge bordering a private residence in the northern area of Rimini. The vegetation belongs to a 51-year-old local man. The fire was reported and the Carabinieri immediately began working on the case, aiming to understand where the fire started and if there was a hand behind the fire. The investigations then led to the 65-year-old. According to the investigative hypothesis, it was not an accidental fire, but an act born in a climate of neighborhood disputes.

That hedge that stirred tempers
At the center of the story would be precisely that dense hedge which, protruding beyond the fence and partially invading the sidewalk, would have obstructed the path usually followed by the man with the wheelchair. An obstruction that would have made it more difficult to move and which, according to the reconstruction, had more than once stirred tempers. Until the fire of September 7, for which the carabinieri believe they have identified the 65-year-old as the alleged culprit. Having gathered the investigative elements, the officers forwarded the documents to the Rimini Public Prosecutor’s Office. The man was then reported at large. His position is now under review by the judicial authority.
