Imola, September 18, 2026 – A thunderstorm accompanied by hail, with even large hailstones, affected the Imolese area in the afternoon, with phenomena reported especially along the Santerno Valley and the hills south of the city. According to the Emilia-Romagna Meteo Facebook page, around the hail affected in the afternoon the areas of Fontanelice, Borgo Tossignano, and Casalfiumanese, as well as Valsellustra and the Imolese hamlets of Fabbrica, Ponticelli, and Linaro, reaching almost the border with the Pedagna district.

The thunderstorm front then moved eastward, also affecting the Ravennate. Hail and showers were reported in the area of Riolo Terme and Villa Vezzano, with the system heading towards Fognano, Brisighella, Errano, and Castel Bolognese.

Thunderstorms between Bolognese, Ferrarese, and Forlivese
But the thunderstorms did not only affect the Imolese and Ravennate territories. Phenomena were also reported in several other areas of the region: between Petrignone, Castiglione, and Villagrappa, in the Forlivese; on the Bolognese Apennines, on the border with Tuscany, between Castel del Rio, Giugnola, Belvedere, and Sassoleone; and on the Bolognese plain, between Sala, Padulle, Argelato, San Giorgio di Piano, Cinquanta, and Altedo.
Other thunderstorms were reported between Bolognese and Ferrarese, in the area of Baricella, San Gabriele, and Santa Maria Codifiume, and between Bolognese, Modenese, and Ferrarese, between San Carlo, Mirabello, and Vigarano Mainarda. In the Ferrarese, finally, phenomena were indicated between Ferrara, Malborghetto di Boara, Ruina, and Zocca and between Rovereto, Final di Rero, and Tresigallo.

Weather forecast: improvement over the weekend
The phase of instability, however, is gradually expected to lose strength. According to the meteorological framework outlined by meteorologist Ampro Roberto Nanni, “the unstable phase that has characterized these days is gradually losing strength also over Emilia-Romagna.” The improvement will be progressive and will mainly affect the weekend.

Saturday, September 19 some residual showers will remain possible, particularly over Romagna and along the Apennines. During the day, however, clearings will increase and the phenomena will tend to cease.
Sunday 20 the improvement will be more marked, with predominantly sunny weather and temperatures slightly rising: in the plains, maximum temperatures could locally reach 28-29 degrees.
Stable and sunny conditions are also expected on Monday 21, with maximum temperatures generally between 26 and 28 degrees and possible higher values in the inner plains.
New worsening from Tuesday, September 22
The situation could instead change from Tuesday, September 22 to Thursday, September 24. No organized new worsening is indicated, but the arrival of cooler air from the eastern quadrants could bring more clouds and east or northeast winds, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. Minimum temperatures could fall towards 15-16 degrees, while maximum temperatures would generally return to around 24-26 degrees.
