At first small, so much so that some bathers thought it was caused by the lighting of the grills for the Rustida of the lifeguards scheduled for the evening. Then it gradually became larger and darker. The fire indeed developed rapidly causing two intoxications, one of which serious. It concerns a woman who, at the moment the smoke began to spread intensely, was in her room located on the top floor, inside which she was trapped until the arrival of the rescue teams. Firefighters intervened to get her out of the room with the now unbreathable air, breaking down the door and bringing her out of the building. During the rescue operation, the woman lost consciousness. She was immediately placed on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance, where she was given first aid. Also suffering from smoke intoxication was a hotel employee who remained inside the building, assisting with the evacuation operations, which involved about fifty people including guests and hotel staff, carried out very quickly and effectively thanks to the intervention of the Carabinieri, with a patrol also arriving from Pesaro and volunteers from the Gradara civil protection.

The fire was extinguished by the firefighters within half an hour. Outside the hotel, many tourists were disturbed by the incident. Some even took their suitcases out of the hotel. For everyone, the uncertainty about where to spend the night. “We still don’t know if the hotel will be usable” – they commented. Among the crowd gathered in front of the hotel, there were also hypotheses about the origins of the fire. “This morning the air conditioning was not working well” – said a hotel guest. A malfunction of the air conditioning system located on the top floor of the hotel was pointed out by those present as one of the causes of the fire.
