Bollate (Milan) – Mario Roggero, the jeweler on the third day in prison after the final sentence of 14 years and 9 months for having killed two robbers, “is doing well.” This is claimed by his wife, Mariangela Sandrone, who today visited him in Bollate prison with their four daughters.

“Mario is fine – the woman says – everything is fine. I found him calm and he made a good impression, he is well considering the environment.” The conversation with the family lasted about four hours. Upon leaving, journalists again asked the woman about the pardon, on which she did not want to add anything beyond what she had said in recent days, and about the solidarity received from Elon Musk. “Really…”, Mrs. Roggero limited herself to saying, before getting into the car with her daughters and leaving, also urged by one of the daughters who, interrupting the reporters’ questions outside the prison, burst out: “It is more than enough, stop. Stop, since you misinterpret the words...”

Visiting the jeweler in the afternoon was also a delegation from Brothers of Italy of the Lombardy Regional Council, led by Alessia Villa, president of the Special Commission for the Protection of the Rights of Persons Deprived of Personal Liberty and Conditions of Life and Work in Penal Institutions of the Regional Council. With her were also regional councilors Chiara Valcepina, Giacomo Zamperini, and Michele Schiavi. “Faced with such a dramatic event – they commented – there is above all human sorrow for what happened and for the consequences that have affected multiple people and families. Cases that receive strong media exposure should not be turned into summary judgments nor addressed through personalization. However, they can represent an opportunity for serious reflection, in the appropriate forums, on current legislation, on the proportionality of the sanctioning response, and on its concrete applications.”

Villa, Schiavi, Valcepina, and Zamperini recalled the remarks made by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni on the need to question the balance and proportionality of the State’s response in particularly complex cases: “Politics has the task of verifying whether laws are adequate to the situations that reality presents to institutions. This must happen with balance, respect for the separation of powers, and attention both to the rights of victims and to the constitutional principles that govern the execution of the penalty.”
