Bologna, July 27, 2026 – A full 18 hours spent at Palma de Mallorca airport, Spain, but the inconvenience due to the missed departure of a Ryanair flight bound for Bologna lasted almost 24 hours for as many as 150 passengers.
The Ryanair flight was supposed to depart yesterday morning at 6:55 but in the end it only took off at 1 a.m. and arrived in Bologna two hours later.
The passenger: “No one gave us assistance”
One of the passengers, Giangiuseppe Grassi, a regional official with a past as a travel agent, told Ansa about the episode. “No one gave us assistance, neither from the airport nor from the airline – he says -. We tried to contact the call center and the airport officials but received no response regarding our flight. Around early afternoon only some of us received a communication about a new flight that would depart at 11:45 p.m. But no one at the airport knew anything about that notice. It was not even displayed on the boards. It was a real ghost flight. Moreover, it was departing from a different gate than originally scheduled”.
Lack of communication about the delay
Many of the people stuck at the airport, some passengers report, did not receive the communication and left the terminal waiting for official information. “At gate closing we saw two girls running towards the counter trying to board – Grassi explains further -. They had found out about the flight by chance talking with other waiting passengers“.

“I would like to emphasize that none of the tourists waiting ever raised their voice or escalated the tone – concludes the passenger -, we were all very calm without losing our temper, despite the wait of almost 20 hours. Among us there were also children and elderly. Obviously, we will submit a refund request, but we also expect apologies from both Ryanair and Palma de Mallorca airport“.
Ryanair’s explanation
“The flight – explains the airline – was delayed due to a minor technical problem and subsequent thunderstorms at Palma de Mallorca airport. Passengers booked on this flight received communications via email and push notifications, as well as subsequent updates through the Ryanair app, and during the delay vouchers for meals and drinks were distributed. To minimize inconvenience, we arranged a replacement aircraft to operate the flight to Bologna, which took off at 00:30 local time“.
