Riccione (Rimini), August 5, 2026 – Youth crammed into the rooms of a small hotel. The municipal officers found three times the number allowed by the declared capacity. The number certified in the Scia (the notification of commencement of activity) was clear: the hotel could accommodate a maximum of 36 guests. But inside the facility located in the Marano area, the local police found 90 people, mostly very young.
Crowded and crammed rooms
The rooms appeared “heavily crowded, packed with beds and lacking the minimum spaces required by health and hygiene regulations and current laws,” explained the Riccione local police command. In addition to constituting “a clear administrative and commercial violation, the condition of extreme overcrowding represented a potential and serious risk to the safety and health of the occupants themselves, which is why immediate sanctioning countermeasures and notifications to the competent authorities were triggered, having also found the presence of non-fireproof, extremely worn mattresses.”
Numerous warnings, fines, and complaints for the small hotel
What was discovered in the small hotel in Marano is not the only irregularity found by officers during targeted inspections of accommodation facilities. The Local Police’s activity has led to a total of 13 administrative warnings, 7 fines, and 6 complaints. Specifically, the 13 administrative warnings were issued due to various deficiencies found, including the mismatch between the hotel classification (the number of stars) and the services actually provided. Other irregularities concerned the absence of the facility’s name, the failure to indicate and display the rates charged, and the tourist tax.

Then there are seven administrative fines issued for various reasons. The first concerns the accommodation capacity, that is, the limit that accommodation facilities cannot exceed. In some cases, the problem involved the failure to communicate extraordinary openings or closings and the holding of unauthorized events and musical entertainments. But it gets worse. The local police also verified the operation of an activity without a regular Scia, followed by non-compliance with the prohibition to continue, which led to the owners being reported. Finally, six complaints were filed with the judicial authority for failure to report the guests, which is mandatory and related to public safety and more: if guests are not declared, the related tourist tax is not paid.
