Bologna, August 6, 2026 – Bologna is singing for Francesco Guccini. In Cirenaica, in front of the house where ‘The Maestro’ spent much of his life, at via Paolo Fabbri 43.
Hundreds of people gathered at 8:30 PM and are still arriving to pay tribute to one of the greatest singer-songwriters of Italian music. Some are standing, some sitting, all united in the notes and words of Guccini, resonating “Via Paolo Fabbri 43”, “Autogrill”, “Vedi cara”, “Venezia”.
In front of the house door appeared hundreds of bouquets of flowers, candles, and messages of love and affection for the artist who passed away today at 86 years old. “Goodbye Francesco, a part of me goes with you,” “we will miss you,” “thank you Francesco, craftsman of poets,” “thank you for having existed.”
Tears, emotion, applause. A true procession that started this morning and continued throughout the day.
A sign of how much Bologna loved Guccini. And how much the Maestro loved Bologna.
Then, at 11 PM, with the street crowded with people in memory and honor of the singer-songwriter, the crowd of over 300 people moved, singing ‘La locomotiva‘, thanks to the boys and girls of ‘Cantando Bologna’, to the nearby Giancarlo Susini garden, passing in front of the historic trattoria da Vito, one of Guccini’s favorite places in the city.

A big singing event in Piazza Maggiore has also been announced, scheduled for Saturday, September 5. Mayor Matteo Lepore also posted a video of the commemoration in Cirenaica on his Instagram profile: “Tonight Bologna sings everywhere for Francesco.”
