Bologna, August 8, 2026 – Tragedy on vacation in Salento. A 19-year-old boy died yesterday afternoon in the sea at Rivabella, Gallipoli (Lecce).
The victim was from Bologna
Originally from Bologna, the young man was on vacation with some friends. He was swimming with a companion when he suddenly disappeared among the waves. Noticing the absence of his friend, the boy who was with him in the water raised the alarm, immediately activating the rescue operation.
The rescue
Two lifeguards from a local bathing establishment jumped in to recover the 19-year-old and bring him back to shore. Resuscitation maneuvers immediately began on the shore, in which a doctor who was off duty on the beach also participated. His intervention proved to be in vain. The 118 emergency personnel arrived on the scene and continued the operations with cardiac massage for about 45 minutes, but there was nothing to be done for the young man.
