Bologna, August 11, 2026 – The nightmare of stifling heat will stay with us for a few more days, especially today – Tuesday, August 11 – which should be the hottest day with peaks up to 38-39 degrees.
So, in this scorching summer that is causing damage even to crops, those who thought that at Ferragosto we could breathe ‘fresher’ air will be terribly disappointed.
“Extreme temperatures, the first ten days of August 2026 break every record”
A fact that confirms our discomfort is provided by Pierluigi Randi, the president of Ampro (Association of Professional Meteorologists) who compares the first 10 days of August 2026 with three years with first decades of August considered extreme in terms of temperature in Romagna, namely 2003-2013-2017.
“We are exactly one degree above the first ten days of August 2017 which until now had been the hottest (90 years of observations): 29.6 degrees versus 28.6 degrees in 2017. Pure madness. The absolute maximum temperature records of 2017 still stand, but the decade of 2026 is much hotter; 2003 and 2013 literally outclassed. Not to mention the period before 2000, the comparisons would be ruthless,” writes Randi.
After Ferragosto some relief?
But glimpses of ‘relief’ (so to speak) can be seen after the holiday weekend (August 15-16) that is about to arrive. In fact, temperatures will finally drop and rain will also return. This also seems to be the trend for the end of the month and the beginning of September.
Weather forecast Wednesday, August 12
On Wednesday, August 12 – a day on which you will also be able to see the solar eclipse – the expert meteorologists of Arpae predict “modest cumulus cloud build-up in the afternoon hours along the hills, with probable showers in the western sector. Minimum temperatures stable, between 22 and 25 degrees; maximum temperatures slightly decreasing with values around 36 degrees in the Emilian plains and between 31 and 34 degrees along the coast and in Romagna.”

For Thursday, August 13 “mostly clear skies, except for modest cumulus cloud build-up along the hills in the afternoon. Temperatures without significant changes. Minimums between 22 and 25 degrees, maximums around 31-32 degrees along the coast and between 36 and 37 degrees in the inland plains. Light variable winds and breeze regime along the coast, with temporary strengthening.”
Weather trend from Friday, August 14 to Monday, August 17
Until the Ferragosto weekend “high pressure conditions will persist with stable and sunny weather, except for modest afternoon cloudiness along the hills. Only at the end of the period will the weakening of the anticyclone cause a deterioration of the weather with increased cloudiness in the western sector of the region. Temperatures will not undergo significant changes until Sunday, with maximums still up to 36-37 degrees in the inland plains and slightly lower in the coastal areas; maximums will decrease on Monday in the western sector of the region.”
Forecast for the week from Monday, August 17 to Sunday, August 23
The weather (and especially the heat) will undergo a sharp change in the week following Ferragosto due to a “lowering of latitude of the unstable Atlantic flow, together with the possible passage of a depression wave between Spain and France” which “should cause, especially at the beginning of the period, several episodes of instability with precipitation slightly above normal.” In this way temperatures “will tend to decrease, reaching values equal to or only slightly above the climatological average.”
Trend from Monday, August 24 to Sunday, September 6
The end of the month and the beginning of September should still maintain this change of mood with “the further descent of Atlantic currents towards the Mediterranean,” which “should expose the region quite frequently to episodes of instability, although alternated with rises of high pressure. Overall, precipitation is expected to be above the climatological average, while temperatures will tend to return to values normal for the period.”
