Immediate response from the mayor of the Municipality of Ventasso, Enrico Ferretti, disappointed by the act of vandalism, calling it “a serious gesture that strikes the memory and identity of our community.”

The plaque pays tribute to a music protagonist who made the Apennines known

The plaque was inaugurated on Friday, August 7 as part of the project to enhance the bond between Iva Zanicchi and the Reggio Apennines. An initiative designed precisely to pay tribute to a great protagonist of Italian music and a figure who helped make the Apennines known even beyond its borders. The Municipal Administration strongly condemns the episode.

“It was not simply a plaque that was damaged – emphasizes Ferretti – but a piece of memory and the identity of our community. That plaque tells the story of the bond between Iva Zanicchi, Vaglie, and our Apennines.”

The episode at the Cerreto Laghi Ice Rink

“Once again – continues the mayor – we must note that just when the Administration manages to achieve important results for the territory, there is someone who intervenes to try to ruin them or slow down that process. It had already happened with the Cerreto Laghi Ice Rink and today we face an episode that I consider even more vile and low-profile.”

“Gesture that strikes a symbol of the community”

The episode comes while the Administration is engaged in a series of initiatives to enhance the various hamlets of Ventasso. “We are working to enhance every corner of our Municipality, recover places, reopen spaces, carry out initiatives and tell the stories that make Ventasso unique. We believe that enhancing the territory is one of the keys to its future. I do not want to judge intentions and the investigations will clarify responsibilities, but it is a gesture that strikes a symbol of the community,” adds the mayor.

The reference is also to the recent episode of vandalism that affected the Cerreto Laghi Ice Rink. “Certainly, an act of vandalism will not stop the work we are doing. We will continue to enhance the territory and its history,” he concludes.

The plaque will be repaired

The administration will now proceed to repair the plaque and to any necessary investigations.
