Bologna, August 14, 2026 – His name is Ares. And for three days he lived in that solitude that humans suffer from the most during the holidays.
He, who is instead a beautiful dog of mixed-breed husky perhaps does not know that these are the days of Ferragosto, the summer New Year’s Eve, the parties until dawn.
The call for help collected by the neighbors and the report
But he must have felt terribly alone, even without water and food, if his howls and barks coming from an apartment on the second floor of a building on via Luigi Rasi, in the San Donato-San Vitale district, led yesterday afternoon the residents of the building, very worried, to call the Local Police Radio Operations Center to report the incident.
So, around 3:30 p.m., officers from the Navile unit on Emergency Service arrived on the scene and there they found Ares, left alone inside the home in obvious distress. From the first information gathered and the checks carried out, the animal was found to be unattended and without assistance for about three days.
Owner found. “I am out of town”
Ironically, the suffering dog is named Ares, namesake of the police dog assigned to the Local Police canine unit.
After further checks in the Canine Registry and Resident Population databases, the operators traced the owner of the animal, a twenty-six-year-old young man.

Severe hygienic-sanitary degradation inside the house
Contacted by phone while he was, according to him, out of town, the young man authorized the officers to enter the property. Veterinary staff from the Ausl also arrived at the location who, from an initial external inspection and after the subsequent entry into the premises, found a situation of severe hygienic-sanitary degradation and absence of water and food available to the dog.
At this point, the Public Prosecutor on duty was informed and authorized access to the apartment, made possible through keys provided by a relative of the occupant, who arrived shortly after.
The seizure and the complaint

Considering the abandonment situation and the precarious condition of the animal, the officers proceeded with the preventive judicial seizure of the dog, hypothesizing the crime of animal mistreatment.
Ares was taken into custody by specialized personnel and transferred to the facilities of the Castel Maggiore kennel, where he was entrusted for appropriate care. The owner will be reported to the Judicial Authority for the responsibilities of the case.
