Bologna, August 22, 2026 – It arrived at the association of victims’ families shortly after mid-August, and was sent by lawyer Emanuela Sabbi, signed by Fabio Savi. It is dated August 1, place: Milan. One of the killers of the Uno Bianca writes from prison – “with great difficulty I address you after having testified my torment in front of millions of people,” he says referring to the interview aired in May on Rete 4 –, then claims to have become aware of the gravity of what he committed – describing himself as “deeply sorry.”

And again: “Words will never be able to make up for the harm done,” adding: “I only tried to repeat the truth, the same testified at the trials.” His truth according to which behind the Uno Bianca there are only the license plate, the headlights, and the bumper – as he said then and as he repeated also in the recent TV interview –; and he explains that he retracted it at some point “to stupidly follow the example of my brother, who in reality did not behave like a brother.” He humbly apologizes for all the harm caused and, still addressing the victims’ families, “for the infinite pain you are experiencing today.” Adding that he also lives it.
The families: “Outraged, our pain is renewed”
“We were not willing to publicize the matter, but now that it is circulating among the media, we emphasize that we hold the same position as always – explains Alberto Capolungo, president of the victims’ association –. The association will not respond because, as always, it does not believe it should have anything to do with them – the firm position of the association –. Then each of us family members, in our hearts, will do what we feel, but so far, I have only received outraged, offended, suffering reactions, because this old pain is always renewed. And also because we believe it is a manipulative letter (aimed at obtaining benefits to get out of prison, ed). He (Fabio Savi) reiterates his truth: behind their criminal actions there was nothing. We are outraged because the two people who committed all the crimes (together with Fabio, the older brother Roberto) give us diametrically opposed truths and these two things, these two readings, cannot coexist.” Roberto, the gang leader, in fact said on TV that behind their actions there were the Services.
With this letter “no news emerges – continues Capolungo – and it offers no contribution and this is also why we did not consider it necessary to respond.”
Prosecutor’s Office informed
The file at the Prosecutor’s Office is in the hands of prosecutors Lucia Russo and Andrea De Feis. Clearly “we immediately informed the Prosecutor’s Office, the same day the letter arrived.”
Mazzanti: “Pretext to get out of prison: chilling cynicism”
“The denial of Roberto’s pseudo revelations by Fabio seems to have become the pretext to go on the offensive and ask for permission to get out of prison. At least this is the interpretation of the decision to go on television given by Fabio himself, in the letter sent to the families last August 1 – says Massimiliano Mazzanti, who recently published the book ‘Uno Bianca, 1988. The massacre of Castel Maggiore and the Macauda cover-up’ –. And it is chilling to read with what cynicism the life-sentenced prisoner directly chooses to deny his brother, in a role-playing game already seen in the past and which he himself cites in the letter, at the request for forgiveness, instrumentally taking responsibility already established at the judicial level, but in the evident attempt to deny other complicities emerging from journalistic and judicial investigations, evidently reassuring those who must grasp, from the words of the Savi, the ‘right’ messages. In recent years, critical issues have emerged in the various judgments of the judiciary that condemned the Savi which can no longer be underestimated.
Evidence that reveals complicities and aspects still unclear in the Uno Bianca case. A true repentance of Fabio or others could only be certified by a serious and decisive contribution to clarify all those aspects – urges Mazzanti –; not insisting on declaring themselves solely responsible for everything as already, after all, the magistrates have established. Without prejudice to the right of the families to accept Fabio’s request as they see fit, I think clemency must be paid with the truth and only with the truth.”
The largest widespread massacre in Italy
The Uno Bianca gang was active between 1987 and 1994 between Marche and Emilia-Romagna, sowing terror and many victims. In the long trail of blood of those seven and a half years of terror, the Savi and their accomplices caused 23 deaths and over a hundred injuries.
