Pesaro, July 14, 2026 – “He threatened me in front of the customers”. Fear on via delle Galigarie at ’The Butcher Shop’ of Umberto Carriera. He, he says, had only asked to collect the trash left in front of the entrance of the place but a few moments later he found himself facing a man who insulted and threatened him, while some customers decided to walk away.

The story: “Those men spat and left dirt on the ground”
It happened on Sunday evening. According to his account, it all started around 10 p.m., when two men were eating sitting on the windowsill of a house, right next to the entrance of the restaurant. For about twenty minutes, Carriera claims, they had spat and left dirt on the ground. “We keep the outdoor area clean and tidy, we try to set a good example. When they finished I approached and simply said: ‘Now clean up what you left’.”

The situation escalated: “I’ll kill you and smash your face”
From there, according to the restaurateur’s reconstruction, the situation escalated. One of the two men attacked him, even entering the premises. “He told me: ‘Go ahead and call the police, I’ll kill you, I’ll smash your head, I’ll smash your face. This is my house’.” There are also videos, taken by surveillance cameras that capture those tense moments: shouts, insults, and threats can be heard while some, including Carriera, try to restore calm. Just during the argument, four tourists were arriving, including a family with a little girl, intending to dine at the outdoor tables. The scene, however, convinced them to give up.

“A scared family of tourists fled because they didn’t feel safe”
“They asked the waitress if it was safe to stay. She tried to reassure them, but after a few minutes they apologized and left because they didn’t feel safe.” An episode that, besides fear, also had an immediate consequence for the place, with customers who preferred not to stay.
For Carriera this is not an isolated case. “Two weeks ago, around half past eleven at night, when I was not present and only the girls from the staff were in the restaurant, another man entered with a raw fish in hand asking if they could cook it for him.” During the commotion Carriera also called 112. “I explained what was happening, but the patrol did not arrive before the place closed – he says -. The pizzeria closed at 11:20 p.m.”
