San Severino (Macerata), August 27, 2026 – A dinner born with the best intentions – organized by the mayor of San Severino to thank municipal employees and those who contributed to the realization of works and events, starting from the ceremony with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella for Liberation Day – ended with some guests in the hospital. It happened last week. In a local restaurant, about one hundred people including municipal employees, members of the administration, and law enforcement officers gathered. But several people felt unwell.

Symptoms after a couple of days
According to reconstructions, the symptoms did not appear immediately, but after a couple of days, when some of those present began to have intestinal problems, discomfort, diarrhea, and some even fever. At the base, there was a foodborne toxoinfection. Most people overcame the problem at home, while unfortunately about ten, with more marked symptoms, had to go to the hospital, almost all to the first aid point in San Severino, and some also to the emergency room in Macerata. Fortunately, no case turned out to be too serious; patients were treated in the emergency room and then discharged.
Suspected salmonella poisoning
The most probable cause of the poisoning would be salmonella, due to food storage problems that can occur with heat. Summer salmonellosis is an intestinal infection caused by bacteria of the salmonella genus, whose spread increases in the hot months due to high temperatures, which favor bacterial proliferation in food.
All emergency rooms alerted
As a precaution, in recent days, all emergency rooms have been alerted, also because not all the people present at the reunion were from San Severino. A portion of the guests, however, had no problems following the dinner. The issue is also being followed by the Ast, with the necessary checks; some have already been carried out.
In recent days some municipal employees have missed work due to this problem. Some representatives of the administration have also been affected by the poisoning. Mayor Rosa Piermattei is obviously very sorry for what happened. The dinner had been offered by her to thank all those who had worked for the organization of the event with the head of state on April 25, for which a large organizational machine had been activated and which had succeeded in the best possible way, with great satisfaction and pride for San Severino.
