Bologna, August 26, 2026 — The **heat** is returning to push on Emilia-Romagna and will do so decisively in the coming days. After a **brief phase of instability**, temperatures are set to rise rapidly, **with the peak expected between Thursday, August 27, and the first part of Saturday, August 29**. **Romagna** will be the most exposed area, with values that could reach 36-37 degrees, while the Emilian plain will touch 34-36.

Summer outlook in Emilia-Romagna
Providing an update to Carlino is **Pierluigi Randi**, meteorologist and president since 2019 of Ampro, the Association of Professional Meteorologists: “This will be **a burst of heat** that will mainly involve the center-south of the peninsula, a little less the north,” explains Randi. And looking specifically at Emilia-Romagna, the **outlook** will still be **fully summery**: “I’d say 34-36 degrees in Emilia, 36-37 degrees in Romagna.” The **heat**, moreover, will progressively increase moving south: “Emilia a little less affected, **Romagna more so**, Marche even more, with peaks up to 39 degrees.”
Hot air from North Africa
At the origin of the temperature increase is **an influx of very hot air from North Africa**: “It has an Algerian-Tunisian origin and then projects towards North-Northeast until it practically invades the center-south of the peninsula,” says the meteorologist. **It will not, therefore, be a uniform wave across Italy**: the heart of the episode will mainly affect the South, where “temperatures there reach almost 40 degrees” and locally may even push higher.
When the heat peak arrives in Emilia-Romagna
In Emilia-Romagna, **the peak will, however, be relatively brief**: “We will have a peak phase probably **between tomorrow (Thursday, August 27) and Saturday, August 29** — Randi emphasizes, then indicating the turning point —. In the north, between the 29th and 30th, that is, between Saturday and Sunday, the intense heat will subside.” Be careful, however, because it will not coincide with a true return to typical late August temperatures: “They will decrease by a few degrees, yes, but overall for at least another week these will remain above average.”
Few precipitations
Even on the **precipitation** front, no major changes are expected in the region. The most intense **thunderstorms** will remain concentrated mainly on the Alps and Pre-Alps, while **isolated phenomena may appear on the Emilian Apennines**: “There may be some showers, some light rain, but I would say nothing transcendental — Randi specifies — On the coast, however, good weather will prevail, even if the sky may appear veiled and milky due to the presence of desert dust suspended in the atmosphere.”
The drought problem
The most serious problem, however, remains that related to **drought**: “We are still in conditions of this type of problem, both for Emilia-Romagna and for Marche,” warns Randi. Recent thunderstorms, although locally intense, are not sufficient: **”They are not very useful rains”** because much of the water flows quickly without penetrating the ground. And the meteorologist also looks at the grape harvest: **”Probably this year we will have a record early harvest”**, up to over a month earlier than traditional times. August, he concludes, could prove to be “the hottest ever recorded,” even more than 2003. Below are the Arpae forecasts for the coming days.
Thursday, August 27
The day will be clear or partly cloudy, with an **increase in clouds from the evening** starting from the west. **Temperatures will be slightly rising**, with lows between 19 and 23 degrees and highs up to 34-35 degrees in the plain, around 30 on the coast. **Winds** will be weak variable or under a breeze regime, with afternoon reinforcements especially along the coast and in the eastern sector. The **sea** will be slightly choppy.
Friday, August 28
**The heat will increase further**. Arpae forecasts **sky covered by extensive veils**, with wide clearings from late afternoon. Lows will rise to around 23-24 degrees in the plain and on the coast, while **highs could reach 36 degrees** in the plain and fluctuate between 31 and 33 degrees along the coastal strip. **Winds** will be weak to moderate and arriving from the south. The **sea** slightly choppy, with wave motion increasing from the evening.
