The situation is different in Piacenza, where in the afternoon a strong thunderstorm affected the border areas between Piacenza and Lombardy a short while ago. Areas near Mortizza and Monticelli d’Ongina, Isola Serafini zone, were affected, where large hail was also reported.

However, today the mercury column in the plains could reach nearly 35 degrees, a value that according to forecasts will repeat tomorrow as well, while in the hills the minimum temperatures will be around 21 degrees and the maximum will reach 30 degrees.

Humidity at maximum level

As mentioned, what makes the heat particularly intense is not just the thermometer, but the high humidity, which accentuates the feeling of mugginess. At the origin of this new heat wave is indeed a flow of scorching air coming directly from North Africa, affecting the entire Emilia-Romagna and beyond.

Therefore, we are facing a decidedly scorching weekend for those moving through the streets of Bologna, forced to deal with a full return of the intense heat after the recent short cool break. Over the weekend, the weather outlook – according to forecasts – will remain fully stable and sunny, with no precipitation expected.

Given the persistent heat, Emilia-Romagna has decided to extend the orange alert for fire risk until Monday, September 7: the measure was adopted in agreement with the regional direction of the Firefighters, the Regional Command of the Carabinieri Forestry Corps, and Arpae Emilia-Romagna.

“The weather outlook – explains the authority – foresees high pressure conditions with a related increase in temperatures, ventilation linked to episodes of instability, and absence of significant and widespread precipitation.”

Mid-September trend: autumn arrives

During the period between early and mid-September, phases of high pressure and the passage of perturbation waves associated with Atlantic currents south of the Alpine area seem to alternate. Translated: variable conditions are expected, with some episodes of rain alternating with sunny days. Autumn arrives, but it will be warm. Overall, precipitation is expected to be normal, while temperatures will tend to remain above typical seasonal values.
