“Everyone’s help is needed”
But returning to the wild night on via Nazario Sauro, with images also broadcast on Tg1 and then on Rai News 24, the prefect called together almost all the actors involved. There is talk “of increasing the visibility of the police forces and local police” but at the same time there is a strong appeal to “the managers of the damaged venues or anyone who witnessed acts of vandalism to request, without putting their own safety at risk, the intervention of the police forces immediately in order to allow the identification of the perpetrators of these raids, rather than, as often happens, filming the events with a phone to make viral posts on social media without even alerting the police forces as recently occurred.”
So the commitment — decided at yesterday’s meeting — to review surveillance camera footage “in order to promptly identify the perpetrators of the damage or disturbances also to be able to proceed with financially penalizing the culprits so that families bear the consequences of the bad nightlife.”
Meetings with students
How to fight this youth malaise? At yesterday morning’s meeting, on the Prefect’s initiative, it will soon be proposed “to the provincial school principal to organize meetings with middle and high school students and the police forces, including traffic police, to address from other perspectives a phenomenon increasingly widespread among adolescents that has its root in youth discomfort and that manifests itself more and more frequently by carrying out, often under the influence of drugs and alcohol, acts of vandalism to the detriment of the entire community.” Therefore, a general call for more responsible use of social media to avoid emulation and social alarm. The Municipality specifies that the traffic police patrol the city on Fridays and Saturdays until 6 a.m. and on Sundays until 4 a.m., although those on the other side of the security barricade say: “24/7 local police do not exist.”
Anyway, yesterday morning’s meeting ended on a note of optimism “because all members wished to emphasize — the note reads — how Pesaro is a safe city for youth entertainment, with no cases similar to those that occurred over the weekend, which are therefore of an occasional nature and which in any case are under the attention of the police forces who throughout the summer season ensured their presence and territorial control.”
