Bergamo, August 31 – Just when Bologna seems to start speaking German, another defeat arrives. By a narrow margin, again but above all caused by an individual error after a match played openly but above all dominated at times. FIRST HALF
Bologna starts well, with the rossoblù controlling the game calmly maneuvering the ball. At the 8th minute Kossounou half-sleeps, with Cambiaghi taking advantage of the Atalanta defender’s misread bounce, steals the ball and tries to break towards the goal but recovered by the Dea defense he attempts a low shot that is easily controlled by the Bergamo goalkeeper.
At 14’ it’s again Cambiaghi who is served in support by Piccoli, goes to the byline and crosses hard, Carnesecchi repels, the ball remains at the edge of the area with Raspadori caught off guard, Holm arrives who volleys high. The rossoblù push and from the right comes Bernardeschi’s shot, who receives from Holm after a wrong clearance by the Dea and shoots, Carnesecchi repels the danger. After just a minute a dangerous low cross from Alhassane, timid until then, the ball arrives in the area but there are too many black and blue legs and Sarri’s defense clears.
At 25’ Pobega also tries after a recovery on the three-quarters but his shot is very far from Atalanta’s goal.
The Dea shows up in front at 28’, with a flying shot from Raspadori, lost by Holm, from a very difficult position on an invitation from Zappacosta: the ball goes well over the crossbar. Bologna responds at 31’ with Piccoli who receives between the lines from Odgaard, defends and tries to free the shot losing the moment to serve Cambiaghi, in the end the shot comes after the 91 frees himself from Scalvini’s pressing but the ball goes a few meters wide of the post.
Still Raspadori at 36’ tries to finish a nice collective action by the Dea and perhaps too selfishly looks for the shot instead of serving the teammates crowding the area, weak low shot and easy catch for Skorupski. The Polish goalkeeper is well positioned also at 42’ when Scamacca receives well at the edge, immediately firing a powerful but central shot, with the bounce that could have been tricky but is well controlled by the rossoblù goalkeeper. Bologna shows up forward also before the end of the half, with Bernardeschi perfectly curling to the far post where Ferguson arrives running with the instep, Carnesecchi decisive, repels with his foot but Doveri sees the Scot offside at the moment of the pass. The score does not change and so they go to the locker rooms at 0-0: first half strongly marked by Bologna, with Tedesco’s team keeping control of the game, pressing and best containing Sarri’s formation.

SECOND HALF The teams return to the green rectangle without changes, with Bologna moving the first ball. The rossoblù restart from where they left off in the first half, in an organized and aggressive manner. At 49’ Odgaard tries from the edge, cutting inside and trying to close on the near post, ball on the boards. Shortly after it is again the Dane protagonist, this time serving Piccoli in depth, the 91 mistimes and shoots hard but wide.
At 51’ Cambiaghi’s lightning: Alhassane serves the 28 who quickly controls, cuts inside and hits the outside wood with a powerful shot with Carnesecchi beaten. It is the first great chance of the second half, with the score still not changing. Sarri then tries to change, bringing in Elmas and Zalewski, taking out De Ketelaere and Raspadori, renewing the offensive wings. Tedesco responds by always tweaking the offensive front, with Orsolini and Dovbyk for Odgaard and Piccoli, with Bernardeschi thus moving to midfield. The carousel of changes also brings Krstovic and Samardzic on for Scamacca and Ederson while the rossoblù also rotate again, Zortea for Holm and Amondarain for Pobega. The pace drops mid-half, with Bologna continuing to control the game but struggling to reach Carnesecchi’s area also thanks to an Atalanta that has definitely grown compared to the first 45’.
Another physical blow meanwhile for Tedesco who has to deal with Orsolini’s injury, who had just come on. Bologna’s coach puts Moro in the middle and Amondarain who goes to play as trequartista. At 84’ possible chance for Bologna: Heggem launches for Dovbyk who takes good position, Carnesecchi comes out but the ball arrives to Amondarain who instead of shooting at an empty goal, albeit from the three-quarters, tries to serve the Ukrainian again and has his pass intercepted by Carnesecchi himself. At 87’ the Argentine tries to redeem himself: nice service from Cambiaghi who gets out well from the pressing and serves Amondarain on the run, the number 8 enters the area, looks at Dovbyk but then aims for the far post, the ball goes a few meters wide. Bologna tries again, with Bernardeschi going solo, cutting inside after eluding the Dea defense, strong shot on the left post, Carnesecchi stretches and denies Tedesco’s team the goal again. The game heads towards the final moments, with Doveri adding 4’ of extra time. The rossoblù remain temporarily with 10 men due to Ferguson’s injury, who gave so much. The injury time thus extends again and just when the match seems destined to end in a draw, comes the cold shower for Bologna: Samardzic breaks the deadlock from distance, with a shot that beats a culpable Skorupski, fooled by the ball’s bounce but unable to stop the shot from the Atalanta number 10. The Dea wins 1-0 but Bologna has much to complain about.
