Loreto (Ancona), July 14, 2026 – More than fifty stab wounds to the abdomen and legs. This is the terrible picture that emerged from the autopsy on the body of Luigia Fortunato, the thirty-three-year-old killed by her husband Sami Khemaies, a 39-year-old Tunisian, in the house where they lived in Loreto. The examination, carried out by forensic doctor Angelo Montana, measured the ferocity with which the woman was struck in the attack that left her no chance: certainly the victim defended herself from that very violent attack, as wounds were also found on her forearms.
The confessed defendant claimed to have been threatened
The defendant, who confessed, is in Montacuto prison charged with multiple aggravated voluntary manslaughter, while femicide was not charged. Khemaies allegedly stabbed his wife at the height of a violent argument in the house where at that moment their 7-year-old son was not present as he was at his maternal grandmother’s. He claimed that his wife had threatened him with a knife; then according to his version of events, he disarmed her and then killed her.
The family: “Luigia was a wonderful mother”
The defense of the family is entrusted to lawyer Cristina Perozzi, who from the first days warned against the risk of revictimizing the woman: “Luigia was a wonderful and irreproachable mother, that’s why she was not known to social services – she declared –. There was no conflict in that family, but a dysfunctional father with a criminal record. She urged the man to rehabilitate himself, allowing him to have contact with the child.” The lawyer calls for caution in making any hypotheses: “If there have never been complaints, how can we know if Luigia was never a victim of abuse? It is still premature to make criminal hypotheses. We must let the judiciary and investigators work calmly, towards whom I have the utmost trust.”
An emotional education workshop for children
Meanwhile civil society is mobilizing and rallying around the memory of Luigia. Not only the torchlight procession, presumably scheduled for Friday or Monday (confirmation on the funeral date is awaited): prompted by the educators of their summer camp, the Acli involved the Gender Observatory of Macerata, which will hold an emotional education workshop with the children, particularly affected by the event.
