Vergato (Bologna), July 14, 2026 – For friends he was ‘Baro’. Or ‘André’. For his mother, he was “my angel,” as the relative of Andrea Baroni wrote on social media announcing the tragic loss of her son. An angel, “flown to heaven” at just 24 years old. He died after a terrible crash on the Porrettana that occurred at 5 p.m. on Monday, when Andrea was riding his Yamaha supersport along state road 64. When at the Carbona area in Vergato, the 24-year-old collided with a small truck driven by a 40-year-old driver of Romanian origin.
Details still under investigation by the Vergato Carabinieri
The exact circumstances that led to the head-on collision between the two vehicles are still under investigation by the Carabinieri of the Vergato station, who arrived at the scene immediately after the tragic accident.
What is certain is that the 24-year-old, resident of Sala Bolognese, was traveling on the Porrettana towards Bologna, opposite to the approaching small truck. For reasons still being determined, the two vehicles collided and Andrea Baroni was thrown off the Yamaha, hitting the asphalt violently. A very serious accident for which the alarm was raised immediately, drawing several Carabinieri and 118 emergency vehicles to the Carbona area, including an ambulance, emergency medical vehicle, and even a helicopter due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the young man.
While the Carabinieri were conducting surveys on the vehicles involved and along the Porrettana, which was closed for hours to allow rescue operations, the 118 medical staff stabilized the 24-year-old before loading him onto the helicopter and transferring him to the Emergency Room of the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna. There, Andrea fought between life and death throughout the night in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. And there, finally, this morning the 24-year-old passed away.

The injuries sustained in the crash were too severe, and from the first transport the young man’s condition appeared desperate. Andrea Baroni, from Sala and former student of IIS Belluzzi – Fioravanti, died at 24, leaving behind a piercing pain in those who loved and knew him, with hundreds of comments beginning to appear under the post where the family announced his passing on social media.
A file will be opened for vehicular manslaughter investigation
The investigations into the fatal crash are now entrusted to the Vergato Carabinieri, who have already carried out the necessary surveys at the accident site and informed the judicial authority of the event. Following the death of the 24-year-old, as a required procedure, a file will now be opened for vehicular manslaughter which, also as a required procedure, will see the 40-year-old driver of the small truck registered.
