Rinasce Cicli Cinzia, the legend returns in the saddle: “Folding and electric bicycle”

Osteria Grande (Bologna), September 3, 2026 – For decades it was not just a means of transport, but an identity fragment of an Italy that was changing pace. Now, almost 60 years after its birth, the folding bike from Cicli Cinzia is revived, with a strong call to the past in its unique design, but also with an open look to the future of two wheels that has been electric for more than half a decade.

The folding bike returns, and a brand that lived its entire history in the territory of Castel San Pietro, between Bologna and Imola, in the warehouses of via Lombardia in Osteria Grande where until 2018 it produced 100,000 bicycles a year, before closing in 2021 swallowed by globalization and the eastern advance, is reborn.

Maurizio Bombi, heir of his father Giuseppe who founded Cinzia in the early ’60s and who had the intuition in ’67 of a 20-inch folding bike decidedly more comfortable than the Graziella 16 that arrived a few years earlier, puts the brochure on the table and looks at it with pride. “I always wanted to keep the brand alive, then a couple of years ago my son Riccardo pushed us to study something that would bring back to life Cicli Cinzia which was epoch-making.”

Months of study, of drawings, of reestablished relationships with old suppliers and knocking on the doors of new companies to put on the road a two-wheeler so different and at the same time so close to the one of the past. “It was an important and tiring job, based on two essential aspects: recalling history and at the same time creating a product that was iconic, unmistakable.” And so it will be assembled by a craftsman from Aulla, in the province of Massa-Carrara.

The Cicli Cinzia of the new millennium

And just by looking at it like this, the new millennium Cicli Cinzia folding bike catches the eye. The orange color (but there is also a white version) that recalls the historic folding bike of over half a century ago, a meticulous attention to details and particulars such as the leather grips, the brown-cream saddle with colors also echoed on the pedals, the frame without welds (actually hidden with a painstaking leveling work), all strictly in treated stainless steel to be rustproof, the puncture-proof tires also partially cream-colored, battery perfectly hidden inside the tube.

A jewel of aesthetics and lots of Made in Italy

A jewel of aesthetics, a high-level product “where there is all the possible made in Italy, and also the made in Osteria Grande in the grips,” Maurizio smiles. Produced so far in 200 pieces, the new folding bike will land at the International Bike Festival in Misano Adriatico, and it will do so in a stand that will see three historic brands side by side. “With Fratelli Masciaghi who owns Coppi and Gloria Cicli Milano, we will also be there. The idea is to focus on the strength of historic Italian brands, to be able to find in Coppi, Gloria and Cinzia excellent bikes for trekking, road and leisure, and in our case naturally in the field of folding bikes.”

Because some myths never fade, they just change path to keep pedaling into the future.
