Bologna, September 4, 2026 – With the sports decree, a sum between 20 and 30 million could be allocated for the new Bologna stadium. The announcement comes directly from Mayor Matteo Lepore: a development concerning the new stadium that Bologna Calcio and Fiera di Bologna are working on to reach a viable proposal by September for the European Championships of 2032.

“At this stage, we are completing the collection of financiers – says the mayor –. So when we have completed the economic-financial plan with the availability, we can actually say that the operation starts. We are well advanced, as also confirmed by CEO Fenucci. We are all very focused on this goal and I believe that as soon as we have completed this process we can give the city certainty that we are moving forward.”
“We need our own candidacy for the European Championships to be in the process,” says Lepore. And September will therefore be a delicate month in this regard. “Respecting these dates is important: the documentation requested from us concerns the economic-financial plan and the project. To complete the economic-financial plan, as Fenucci said, some financiers are still needed. We must manage to secure the commitment, we are confident,” concludes Lepore.
Councilor Priolo: “Positive response, we are optimistic”
“The city has been asking for a response for some time and this seems to me a concrete response. Afterwards, it must be built; the spaces are already planned within a buildable area that the Fiera has, so nothing new needs to be invented, the feasibility and the economic-financial plan must be constructed,” notes regional Infrastructure Councilor, Irene Priolo. “I believe the Fiera is making its evaluations and it seems to me that the mayor is also optimistic: it is a positive response within the quadrant of the city that is currently the most innovative and where the main activities are moving,” adds Priolo.
Prospects for the new stadium
The CEO of Bologna Claudio Fenucci on the construction of the new stadium, as a new point of reference for sports and beyond in the city, for which optimism is emerging.
“The stadium becomes an important asset for many reasons: it is the place where fan communities are created and it must be designed especially with the new generations in mind. The project is also needed to ensure competitiveness for the team and to generate resources, and it is fundamental for the city, which nowadays cannot do without a multifunctional facility to host football, concerts, and an innovative exhibition pavilion. I hope that soon we will be able to understand if the conditions to do this will be met. The financial resources are available and we are already working with the designers: the organizational procedure related to the designated area should be very fast.”
