The owner had already called the parents’ attention to the need not to let the girl get too close. Then the dog reacted and bit her on the face. The five-year-old girl only suffered a few scratches on her nose and lip, but what was felt more than the wounds was the fear. The incident happened on Sunday, in a well-known pizzeria of the Pearl, the 118 intervened on the spot and the little girl was taken by ambulance to the Infermi di Rimini along with her mother for the necessary treatments. But while the rescuers were trying to take care of her, the situation inside the place began to heat up. The girl’s father started arguing with the dog’s owner.
“The man started throwing objects”
The words became increasingly harsh and the man, according to the account of Andrea Calisi, carabiniere of the Tenenza di Riccione who that evening was off duty and was dining with his family, was in an obvious state of agitation. “He started to rant and throw objects in the air,” Calisi recounts. He watches the scene from his table, without intervening immediately.
Then the 118 also arrives. A nurse approaches the girl’s father and tries to explain to him that he had not been able to find the restaurant and that a sign from outside would have been enough to show him where to enter. It is at that moment that the tension rises again. “The man started to insult the healthcare worker, then grabbed him by the shoulders and pushed him, ordering him to get out of the way.”

4-day prognosis, the nurse files a complaint
There are no punches, but the nurse is grabbed and moved just as he has to take care of the girl. Later he will file a complaint against the father and receive a 4-day prognosis for injuries. At that point Calisi realizes it is time to intervene. “Since he had faced the nurse and seemed about to raise his hands, I intervened.” He gets up from the table, identifies himself as a carabiniere and places himself between the two. Then he escorts the girl’s father out of the pizzeria. “At first the man turned pale. I tried to calm him down, although with great difficulty.” Outside the place, Calisi gradually manages to bring the man back to calm.
The carabiniere: “I waited for the right moment to intervene”
Inside, meanwhile, the rescuers can finally take care of the girl without further tensions. Shortly after, the local police also arrive and when the ambulance leaves for Rimini with the girl and her mother, the situation has now calmed down and Calisi hands the man over to the officers. “I kept calm and waited for the right moment to intervene,” the carabiniere recounts. Some of the people present thank him for what he did. He, instead, thought mainly of one thing: separating the two men and letting the rescuers do their job.
