Bologna, September 4, 2026 – Moments of great fear this evening on via Bellaria, at the border between Bologna and San Lazzaro, where a line 90 bus exploded near a gas station. At least three explosions were heard, followed by a very tall column of smoke visible even from the surrounding hills: fortunately, despite the flames and the great scare, no injuries have been reported.
The driver noticed a malfunction and had the passengers get off: no injuries
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Firefighters quickly intervened on the scene and extinguished the fire, while the local police and carabinieri closed the road to traffic. According to the reconstructions by the authorities and Tper, the driver promptly noticed a malfunction while leaving the Bellaria Hospital heading towards San Camillo.
Shortly after the intersection with via Croara, noticing smoke coming from the front, he stopped the vehicle and safely had all passengers get off, alerting the operations center. Within a few minutes the bus was engulfed in flames, but the driver’s quick action avoided worse consequences.

“This evening a Tper line 90 bus caught fire while traveling on via Bellaria, at the border between our Municipality and Bologna. Fortunately, no one was injured. First of all, I want to thank the Firefighters, the Local Police, and the Carabinieri, who immediately intervened on the scene to secure the area and manage the situation. A special thanks also goes to the bus driver, who promptly realized something was wrong and immediately had all passengers get off the vehicle. His quick thinking and sense of responsibility prevented much more serious consequences. Via Bellaria and via Altura have been closed to traffic in the section between Rotonda del Dono and via Jussi. The Local Police are present on site to regulate traffic.” This is the message shared this evening by Marilena Pillati, mayor of San Lazzaro.
