Reggio Emilia, July 15, 2026 – From the start, his condition appeared desperate, but everything was attempted to save 41-year-old Alessandro Magnani. However, the man, who lived in Canolo di Correggio, did not make it. He had been involved in a bicycle accident on Monday around 12 noon, while on foot returning to the car he had left moments earlier by the roadside. He was supposed to deliver a notice to a person living in a house on via Picenardi, in the countryside between Correggio and Campagnola, in the Bassa Reggiana area. Late yesterday afternoon, the 41-year-old died in the Intensive Care Unit of the Maggiore Hospital in Parma, where he had been admitted after being transported by helicopter.

Paolo Belli was riding the bike
Riding the bike involved in the accident was the singer and TV host Paolo Belli, 64, from Carpi, who had decided to spend a morning cycling in the Reggio countryside. Belli sustained physical injuries considered minor, but he was still monitored by medical staff and then taken by ambulance to the emergency room in Guastalla for a check-up, mainly due to stress from worry about the pedestrian’s condition, which had appeared desperate from the start.

How can I find out anything about his condition?” the singer and TV host kept repeating to the rescuers (who were always by his side), sitting in the shade of a house waiting to be taken to the hospital. Even in the following hours, after being discharged and returning home, Belli continued to ask for news of the 41-year-old.

Causes of death still to be determined
The causes of Magnani’s death are still to be determined with certainty. It is hypothesized that the effects of a head trauma, sustained in the fall after the collision with the cyclist, played a role. But it is also not excluded that the 41-year-old may have been struck by a sudden serious illness just moments before the collision with the bike. This would also explain the pedestrian’s failure to notice the approaching cyclist, as well as the absence of self-protective movements at the moment of the fall on the road. Belli, moreover, was reportedly traveling at a reduced speed. Alessandro Magnani, an only child, leaves behind his mother who lives in Reggio Emilia. He had worked for some time for a service company, handling the delivery of notices to homes. He was also passionate about volleyball and a coach for various clubs in the Bassa Reggiana area.
