What will the beach of Rimini be like, the mayor: "Stopped for 20 years, it needs to be revolutionized. Yes to the maxi baths where they will be

Rimini, September 7, 2026 – The ’war’ between lifeguards and hoteliers over the maxi establishments. The debate on beach clubs and pools. The (many) innovations introduced by the new Rimini beach plan have had the effect of a storm surge.

Controversies upon controversies between those who are against and those in favor of the upcoming beach revolution. For Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad “it must be clear to everyone: our beach needs to be renewed.” Because “in the last 20 years little or nothing has been done on the investment front, due to cyclical uncertainties and many, too many stop and go on the issue of concessions.”

For hoteliers, the possibility of making macro-aggregations, with maxi establishments formed by 8 or more current baths, will create “a monopoly” on the beach and will make the “typical figure of the Rimini lifeguard” disappear.

“I find the opposition between innovation and tradition useless. There may be some macro-aggregations where it is useful that they exist. But the characteristic of the typical Rimini bathing establishment will undoubtedly be protected and there will be micro-aggregations (2 baths and a restaurant or bar together, ed). This is a non-negotiable value.”

The beach plan was adopted in 2025 and a few weeks ago the variant was also approved. But is there still room to make changes and improvements?

“The administration has listened, listens, will listen and then will have the honor to decide. But one thing is certain: we will not shrug off leaving everything as before… Something impossible, by the way, by law, since in 2027 we will have to hold tenders to assign beach concessions. The main goal remains only one: finally redevelop the beach, increasing environmental harmonization and services.

We have invested millions upon millions for the Sea Park and the new sewer system. Through the beach plan we want to promote a real innovation of the beach, with a higher level of environmental sensitivity and maintaining those specificities that have made it successful.”

But it seems difficult to satisfy all tourism operators on the ’type’ of revolution.

“If the beach to come were the result of everything that is heard and read in these weeks… There are proposals clearly in contrast with each other. The real goal remains to renew the beach, just as the city has renewed itself in recent years.”

In short: forward with the revolution at the sea.

“Yes, because the beach cannot be left behind. Because the world and the needs of tourists are moving forward rapidly. Because the Rimini residents themselves are waiting for a turning point.”
