Bologna, July 15, 2026 – He escaped after the graduation party discussion and lunch with family, in downtown Bologna, last July: the investigation into Andrea Cavallari’s prison escape, a 27-year-old from Bomporto (Modena), remains ongoing. He was sentenced definitively to 11 years and 10 months for the Corinaldo massacre (Ancona) that occurred on the night of December 8, 2018, when the so-called spray gang, of which he was a part, caused panic in the Lanterna Azzurra nightclub, where six people died in the crush: five teenagers and a mother of four children.

The file on the escape is in the hands of prosecutor Andrea De Feis. However, a six-month extension has been requested because they have not been able to unlock the phone, an I-Phone. The investigators aim to access it to view the messages and calls made and received, also in search of accomplices who helped Cavallari in the escape.
The prison escape
Cavallari was serving the definitive sentence for the Corinaldo massacre in the Dozza prison, in Bologna.
The escape took place in the afternoon of July 3, right after the lunch with relatives to celebrate the graduation, and he disappeared in the historic center of Bologna: at 3:30 pm, Cavallari had said goodbye to his family after lunch at the restaurant ‘The man and the sea’ on via Righi and vanished into thin air, disappearing through the streets of the center, saying he was going to his girlfriend. Instead, he got into a friend’s car.
He then headed north and finally hid in Spain: first in Barcelona then in Lloret de Mar, a well-known tourist destination where, in front of a hotel, he was stopped.

The capture
The quick capture was possible through the tracking of electronic payments and thanks to those who, in those days, worked tirelessly, day and night. Starting with the Nir (Regional Investigative Unit) of the penitentiary police, led by acting commander Giuseppe Ciuffreda, in close coordination with the Central Service (Nic) and with the investigative units of the carabinieri of Bologna and Ancona.
Andrea Cavallari was stopped around 10 am on July 17 while preparing to leave a hotel in Lloret de Mar, a well-known tourist destination on the Catalan coast, where he had found accommodation under a false name and with false documents. From Barcelona, where he had been reported, he had then moved. He was unarmed and had numerous counterfeit banknotes in his pocket.
According to the investigators’ reconstruction, he had crossed the border by land to avoid being stopped at police checks. After passing through Gaudí’s city and some areas of the Barcelona province, he moved to Lloret de Mar. He was about to leave the hotel when police and carabinieri launched the raid to arrest him. Cavallari was caught while checking out and, at the moment of arrest, did not resist, taken by surprise by the officers.
The massacre
Seven and a half years have passed since the massacre on Corinaldo street (Ancona): here, on the night of December 8, just before the Sfera Ebbasta concert, hell broke loose, with six deaths (five teenagers and a mother of four children) in the crush caused by the spray gang. For those events, Cavallari was arrested in August 2019 along with other gang members, accused of various charges including multiple involuntary manslaughter, theft, robbery, and personal injury.
