Bologna, July 15, 2026 – Piazza Maggiore, Piazza Malpighi, Via Agucchi, Viale Lenin, Via De Nicola. This is not an exercise in toponymy, but a war bulletin with only some of the areas where the wave of sudden bad weather, which started around 6:40 PM and lasted with very high intensity for about half an hour, hammered harder than elsewhere in the Bologna area.
Wind gusts up to 120 kilometers per hour
The storm of lightning and rain, accompanied by wind gusts up to 120 kilometers per hour of maximum recorded speed, battered Bologna and its province causing a cascade of damage and disruptions still being defined, while the fire brigade teams, police patrols, and 118 emergency services are still on the streets covering the territory bent by rain and wind with hundreds of ongoing interventions.
Damaged structure of the open-air cinema
Starting right from the very central Piazza Maggiore, where the wind gusts damaged the structure of the open-air cinema, now cordoned off because it is in a dangerous condition and with the tent partially uncovered, which forced an on-site intervention for securing by the fire brigade and police.
A tree fell on a building on Via Enrico De Nicola
Branches in Piazza Malpighi, tram construction barriers on Via Rizzoli, trees fallen in series in many areas of the city (from the Hills to Colombo roundabout, Via Agucchi, Zanardi, Viale Lenin area, Via Val d’Ossola), up to a tree that even fell against a building on Via Enrico De Nicola, at number 70. Here the tree broke through some scaffolding ending up on the balconies of the apartments but without causing structural damage. The bad weather also caused patchy power outages throughout the provincial territory. The main disruptions occurred in Budrio, Castenaso, San Lazzaro.
Slowdowns on high-speed rail
At Bologna station there are slowdowns on high-speed trains, with delays of about twenty minutes due to the bad weather across the Region, with the marble staircase in the West area also temporarily closed to allow cleaning and securing of the area. But there are currently no reports of trees fallen on the tracks or flooding in the underpasses.
Marconi Airport: flights canceled or diverted
At Marconi Airport the disruptions caused by wind gusts over one hundred kilometers per hour are more impactful, forcing the diversion of four incoming flights and the cancellation of two departing flights that were connected for stopover reasons with the diverted ones. Dozens of landing delays are instead being cleared at this moment.
Cancelled Tony Pitony concert scheduled at Sequoie Music Park
In the city there are also floods on Via Cipriani and in the underpasses of Via del Triumvirato, Viale Togliatti, and Savena. Finally, regarding events, the cancellation of the Tony Pitony concert scheduled for tonight at Sequoie Music Park has already been recorded.
All the fire brigade teams of the provincial command are engaged in interventions across the territory with hundreds of intervention requests queued. At the moment, however, no people have been reported injured in the storm, with damage concentrated on homes, vehicles in transit and movement.
Trees also fallen on Viale Silvani and other city streets
