Riccione, July 14, 2026 – Lifeguards complain about the “weak summer“, but hoteliers talk about a good season, so much so that those managing hospitality for events, especially sports, struggle to find the necessary rooms. How is this explained? According to those working in the hotel industry, this is not due to a lack of tourists, but to several factors: the army of athletes does not go to the sea, more and more vacationers, despite purchasing the tourist package that includes a hotel room, beach bed, and umbrella, actually spend their days in the pool and others like to roam the hinterland.

“The tourism trend has been increasing since last year, if the customer then does not go to the sea, that is a matter we will have to understand better – prefaces Bruno Bernabei, president of Costa Hotels – Food in tour –. These days Riccione Estate Danza is underway with 700 participants, it was not easy to accommodate everyone in hotels, at the end of the month the basketball finals will be held in Piazzale Roma with another 500/600 athletes, coaches, and companions, we still have to accommodate them all because it is hard to find availability. “We are doing well, the trend is good also for the coming weeks – confirms Silvano Turci, longtime director of Hotel Corallo –. Of the 126 available rooms, we might have one or two singles empty, but we are talking about a cosmic nothing. We hope it continues like this. In 70 percent of cases, we work with loyal customers. As for the beach, we are witnessing an anomaly, there are tourists who, despite having the voucher to go there, do not use it and spend their days in the pool. They stay here, we no longer know where to put them, they have even occupied the children’s pool.”

“Compared to the same date last year, in terms of bookings we are far ahead. The occupancy data and trend are definitely positive – assures Andrea Ciavatta, president of Family Hotels and Promhotel – June also went better. The lifeguards’ comments regarding July data surprised everyone a bit, even though it is known that some tourists no longer go to the beach seven days a week. Foreigners too, Poles, Czechs, and Slovaks, like to roam, go to San Marino and elsewhere. Then there are those who stay in the pool. One must also consider the diversity of the presence, those of the Festival del Sole (over 3000 athletes) or other sporting events, who do not go to the sea, so in a certain respect they count less. It is evident that there are more people. The goal now is to bring in guests who are increasingly of quality, that is an attention to have.”
