Venice, September 17, 20026 – From the most beautiful celebration to the most excruciating pain. The mothers of Sean Micheli and Gabriella Querino met again three months after their children’s wedding. And this time they said a final goodbye to Sean, 25, and Gabriella, 26, who died at dawn on Saturday in a boat accident in the Tessera canal. A heartbreaking meeting between the two women, as reported by the Gazzettino.
Gisele, Gabriella’s mother, left Brazil with her partner: the carabinieri welcomed them and took them directly to the station, where they were informed of the latest tragic developments. Shortly after, Gabriella’s older sister, Mariaeduarda, also landed in Venice and went to the carabinieri station.
The meeting between the mothers and relatives
All three left late at night and it was at that moment, as reconstructed again by the Gazzettino, that they crossed paths with Sean’s family, from whom they did not part afterwards.
Yesterday morning (Wednesday) they went together to Sean and Gabriella’s house: the girl’s relatives took some of her belongings to bring back to Brazil. Memories of a happy life tragically cut short.
However, the identification at the morgue has not yet been carried out: a painful rite that was postponed at the request of the relatives and which could also be done remotely, an option that has been made available to them.

The hypothesis of joint funerals
As for the funeral, no final decision had been made until yesterday, but there is the possibility that the families will decide on a single ceremony in Venice: Sean and Gabriella together until the end, with the possibility that she may also rest in Venice. Also on this, that is on the burial, no decisions would yet have been made. The mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini, could declare a day of civic mourning for the day of the funeral, especially if it were for both young people.
Meanwhile, the investigations into the accident continue.
Both vehicles involved in the accident remain seized: the small boat on which Sean and Gabriella were and the taxi: both will undergo technical inspections to clarify the details of the collision. The autopsy on the bodies of the two
young people will be carried out early next week.

The Municipality’s stance
Finally, Mayor Venturini returned to the issue of speed in the lagoon, after last Saturday’s fatal accident. “The Municipality has authority over internal areas such as the San Marco basin – reports Ansa – not over the northern lagoon or more distant areas.” This does not mean that, to prevent accidents like the one that cost the lives of Sean Michieli and Gabriella Querino, the sanctioning system (Sisa) cannot still be effective: “The work to be done – he explained – is that the experience of Sisa, which came into force in August a year ago, can also be adopted by those who have jurisdiction over other bodies of water.”
A month ago a discussion table was set up between the Municipality and the Metropolitan City to toughen sanctions against those who speed with the “small boat”: “The existing ones risk not being sufficient as a deterrent – Venturini notes -. At the same time, there is an issue of responsibility for the categories, which must raise awareness among their members. We will ask for an extra effort.” The reference is to the taxi involved in the tragedy, on which investigations are focusing to establish the speed at which it was traveling at the time of impact. Finally, prevention: “Just as on the mainland kids speed on scooters, in Venice there are small boats. We will think about a dedicated program in schools,”
