San Donà di Piave (Venice), September 18, 2026 – A shocked and incredulous community. A tragic awakening this morning for Passerella, a district of San Donà di Piave (Venice). A 42-year-old woman lost her life this morning, around 8 a.m., in front of her 9-year-old daughter whom she was accompanying to the Marco Polo primary school. She was hit by a garbage collection truck working for Veritas. The alarm was raised immediately and firefighters from the San Donà station arrived on the scene with the crane truck from the Mestre headquarters and the Suem personnel from 118.

Desperate were the attempts to resuscitate the mother, pulled out from under the truck wheels by the firefighters, but after endless minutes the 118 doctor was forced to declare the woman’s death. The local police also arrived on the scene for the necessary accident investigations and traffic management. The little daughter, who was unharmed, was immediately taken inside the school building by the teachers to protect her from the shock and trauma of the scene.
