San Benedetto (Ascoli), September 18, 2026 – A baby just seven months old has been hospitalized since last Monday at Salesi Hospital in Ancona following a trauma suffered after falling from the changing table at the ‘Merlini’ nursery in San Benedetto. The child’s condition, in any case, is not believed to be serious and the effusion found is in the process of being reabsorbed. An accidental incident that is still under investigation and has led to the suspension from service of two operators, for whom dismissal for just cause is looming, as anticipated by the lawyer of the historic Sambenedettese institution, lawyer Rosaria Falco, who, cross-referencing data with the staff, also reconstructed the event.

The facts
The little one had been entrusted to a young assistant responsible for the hygiene of the children, hired on September 1 along with a more experienced colleague. During the diaper change, following a moment of distraction, the baby moved and fell from the changing table. The incident was compounded by the fact that the assistant performing the change did not immediately report what had happened to the reference educator.
The incident was later discovered by the more experienced colleague, while the educator remained unaware of the event for about three quarters of an hour, when the baby, who had remained lively, had already been returned to the mother. As soon as they became aware of the accident, the educators informed the parents, who immediately took the child to the emergency room for examinations, which revealed the cranial trauma.
The transfer of the little one to Salesi
From there the transfer to Salesi by a 118 ambulance. “We expressed closeness and solidarity to the child’s parents, who will take their steps – says lawyer Rosaria Falco –. President Marco Curzi is shaken by what happened. We are now looking for trained staff, who cannot be found in Agencies. We have decided to turn our attention to socio-health operators (OSS) and the first employee should start work on Monday.”
