Ferrara, July 18, 2026 – “After the fierce storms, the heat has returned. But the real cool down is near. However, be careful: it could come accompanied by new very strong storms.” Luca Lombroso, Ampro meteorologist and environmental communicator, analyzes the situation in light of the strong storms recorded on Wednesday and the forecasts for the weekend. In particular, the expert focuses on the north, with a mention of the Region: “Emilia-Romagna and much of the North will still experience very hot days, with highs generally between 34 and 36 degrees and tropical nights. The situation will be worse in the Center-South, with peaks above 40 in Sardinia, Sicily and locally in Puglia.”
After the violent phenomena of Wednesday, the situation therefore cannot yet be considered completely calm. The forecasts for today, therefore, are still marked by uncertainty: “In the afternoon, new heat storms cannot be excluded, especially between Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, not widespread and organized but still locally intense. On Sunday, however, instability increases over the Alps and there could be spillovers towards the eastern plain.”

We arrive then at Monday, when the most significant change is expected: “A cooler front – continues Lombroso – will reach the North-East and Emilia-Romagna with showers and storms already from the morning, followed by new phenomena in the afternoon and evening. At the moment, the formation of a new MCS, a complex of organized storms, cannot be excluded, but its evolution will be better defined only starting tomorrow.”

A cool down will finally arrive, with temperatures that for a few days could return around 28-30 degrees even in Emilia-Romagna: “It won’t be cold, but it will be a relief after weeks of intense heat. The problem is that all the heat accumulated in recent days, together with an exceptionally warm Mediterranean, still represents the ideal fuel for locally very violent storms, which could affect the regional territory.” Good news, therefore, albeit at the cost of other storms. The African ridge near Sardinia will still hold. “It won’t be a sharp drop – concludes the expert –, but a few days around 28-30 degrees in the north and 30-34 in the center will give some relief, especially to the health of the most vulnerable segments of the population.”
