Ancona, July 18, 2026 – Another evening of tension on the Adriatic backbone trains. A violent brawl broke out on board the regional 23789, operating on the Ancona-San Benedetto del Tronto route, forcing the railway staff to stop the train and request the intervention of law enforcement. The incident occurred around 9 PM yesterday, when the train was urgently stopped near the Ancona-Passo Varano station to allow the carabinieri to bring the situation under control.

The three accused of interruption of public service
The military personnel of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Ancona Company intervened on the spot, stopping those responsible for the fight and reconstructing what happened. At the end of the investigations, three citizens of Peruvian origin, aged 20, 23, and 26, all residents of Ancona and already known to the police, were reported. According to what emerged, they were the ones who started the physical altercation inside the train, consequently creating moments of great apprehension among the passengers and forcing the railway staff to stop the circulation. The three were thus reported while at liberty on charges of brawl and interruption of public service.
Previous incidents
The incident in question brings attention back to safety on board regional trains running along the Adriatic line, frequented every day also by thousands of commuters and travelers heading to or departing from stations in the province of Macerata, including Civitanova Marche, Porto Recanati, and Potenza Picena. It is not the first time that the route has been in the news. Last January, at the Civitanova station, a conductor was attacked by a passenger without a ticket after being asked to get off the train.
The umpteenth episode of violence on the Adriatic line
The man, a 40-year-old from Puglia, had first insulted the railway worker during the check and then, once on the platform, had hit him with a punch and pushed him in front of waiting travelers. The police intervention prevented worse consequences and the perpetrator was identified. Yesterday’s incident thus represents the umpteenth episode of violence recorded on regional trains, where assaults, threats, and brawls continue to jeopardize the safety of railway staff and passengers, also causing delays and service interruptions.
