Rimini, August 29, 2026 – Numismatics keeps collectors’ interest high, not only for its cultural value but also as an investment source. This is confirmed by industry operators present at the traditional Philatelic Numismatic Conference ongoing today at the Palazzo del Turismo in Riccione, where coins worth up to 10,000 euros can also be purchased at the stands. “There is great interest in the pre-unification period, therefore Tuscan, Neapolitan, and minor mints coins, while there is a slight decline in King Vittorio Emanuele III – explains Giacomo Valente of San Martino auction house –. More than the single piece, periods are sought after. At the moment, the focus is especially on the highest quality, almost obsessively.”

And confirms: “Here we have the 5 lire coin from 1914 offered at 5,800 euros, but coins worth up to 10,000 euros can also be found. A 1987 ounce was sold for 1,200 euros. After the events of 1993 (when a sensational heist stole a large amount of extremely valuable philatelic and numismatic material, ed.) for security reasons negotiations are conducted elsewhere. The market operates through online auctions. We have also worked with foreigners, although fewer people have come from Russia and the Balkans.”
“Compared to stamps, coins enjoy a more fertile moment also thanks to Europe, which keeps issuing new specimens – confirms Ruggero Lupo of Numismatica Bardulla –. Then there are foreign coins, both antique and modern, which always sell.” Regarding Italian coins, he confirms the focus on the 1914 silver 5 lire: “I have some for 6/7 euros, but in very high preservation they can reach 14/15 thousand. Then there are the first series from 1946 and 1947 which, even in low preservation, have significant market value, and the 1956 5 lire, minted in lower quantities compared to other years, which range from a minimum of 50/60 euros to 2,500 if in very high and very rare preservation. The 2 lire from 1958, the 50 and 100 lire from the early ’50s and ’60s, always in very high preservation, are also of interest.”

At the event organized by Numismatica Riminese, curiosity is also aroused by coins from the State Printing Office and Mint which, besides the erinnophilic sheet dedicated to Riccione, offers special specimens such as the 999 silver Algida coin in a cone-shaped folder. The nominal value is 1.5 euros, available for 200. As explained by Giulia Staglianò and Simona Di Gianfelice, attention is also focused on the copper issue of the Canticle of the Creatures by Saint Francis. The value of the box set is 100 euros. Among the peculiarities is also the silver triptych of Ferrari, which costs 350 euros, and the coin dedicated to Giò Pomodoro.
