Reggio Emilia, July 23, 2025 – The volleyball and the Napoli Calcio logo: these are the symbols chosen by the family to honor the two great passions of Alessandro Magnani, 41 years old, who passed away on July 14 after the accident, which occurred in Cognento di Campagnola, in the countryside of the Reggio Emilia lowlands, with the bicycle of the well-known singer Paolo Belli. On the funeral remembrance card, in addition to his photo in the Neapolitan jersey, taken at the Maradona stadium, a phrase is written: “Honesty, generous availability, respect for all, inspired his life”.

Mother Pasqualina’s grief at the funeral home
The coach, nicknamed ‘Magnaus’, who lived alone in Canolo di Correggio, left his mother Pasqualina in grief, who today welcomed friends and family to the funeral home, set up at the Croce Verde Funeral Home, which remains open today.
The mother, with great Christian spirit, recounted: “The Lord has taken both my husband and my son from me, but I must accept His will; He is the one who decides and disposes of everything. Fortunately, our large family is by my side and makes me feel their affection”.
The funeral at the Church of the Immaculate Conception
The funeral will be held tomorrow from 1:45 PM, starting from Croce Verde, to the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Via Bismantova in Reggio Emilia, where Holy Mass will be celebrated at 2 PM, then the funeral procession will continue awaiting cremation.
To better understand the dynamics that led to Magnani’s death, we are awaiting the results of the autopsy, ordered by the investigating authorities and completed in recent days.
The well-known singer Paolo Belli is registered in the register of suspects
Paolo Belli, the well-known singer and TV presenter from Carpi, has been registered in the register of suspects, as a necessary act to carry out investigations into the case, for the hypothesis of vehicular homicide.
At noon on Monday, July 13, the singer was cycling, while Magnani was leaving a house on Via Picenardi in Cognento on foot after delivering documents for the service company he worked for. According to an initial reconstruction, as he was returning to his car, the pedestrian was hit by the bicycle Belli was riding. Following the impact, Belli also fell, sustaining minor injuries.
Local police officers from the Union of Municipalities of the Reggio Emilia Plain investigated the accident.
Alessandro died after a day of agony
The victim had been airlifted on July 13 to Maggiore Hospital and died the next day, without ever regaining consciousness. It remains to be clarified whether the impact with the bicycle caused the fall and thus a possible fatal head trauma, or if Magnani had an illness before his death.
